My guess would be that any planets Torch even remotely suspects of being linked to MALign will soon suffer mysterious impacts from small, say missile sized, objects traveling at insanely high speed...
More likely they are going to be visited by Torch Marines backing up a "diplomatic mission".

It might also be interesting to have Torch warships (those not quite useless Torch Frigates) show up and start collecting freighters which have been identified as using the various slaver stations. Call it pro-active anti-slavery and commerce building operation.
We had an example of the raid in COG. Torch and Beowulf Biological Survey have been gathering information and data, now take it another step. The frigates don't carry enough people to put crews on captured ships but they could be acompanied by a small freighter that does have capacity for both serious boarding parties and replacement crew.
Any ship with the equipment of a slaver is automaticaly a slaver even if they don't have any slaves on board so if you have identified (by name but more importantly by tactical signatures) a slave transporting ship, you can go after it even if it is presenlty transporting only legitimate cargo. Seize the ship, deal with the crew (space or life sentence at hard labor on Torch as appropriate) and take the ship somewhere it can be retrofitted to remove the slaver equipment reconfigure (actual rebuilding) to return it to a more standard design. I would suggest Erwhon to get the work done.
This has the advantage of both dealing with present and "former" slavers and taking more transport capasity out of the SL's use plus providing Torch with it's own merchant fleet.
If Torch can't staff the new acquisitions, they could always sell them through Erwhon or even to Haven

If Nimitz dies, will Honor follow, because the bond between them has gotten so intense that Honor can't survive the backlash?

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

I don't think anyone mentioned Abigail Hearn's family. Maybe a catastrophe at the Steadholder's home, killing him and his older children.
Abigail would have been safely off planet commanding a ship somewhere.

She would be the first female Steadholder of Grayson.

Now, that would be interesting : we'd get to see her have to go back home and witness her cope with the problems arising from her being now accustomed to a completely different social environment.

And Mateo Gutierrez becomes even more protective / borderline paranoid.
Yeah, I know, real uplifting title there, Hutch...but considering we're near Halloween and have all the horror movies playing, when else could I post this?

Think, the MWW has never been shy about killing off his "good guys" when the plot demands it, as he did in AAC (Giscard, McKeon, Jamie Candless) and MoH (Miranda and Farragut, Andrew (that one hurt), and Wesley Mathews). The last couple of books haven't given much chance for that, given the disparity of weapons, but with the MAlignment about to take the field and the expectation that at first their stealthed craft will take their toll, it wouldn't surprise me to see one or more major character shuffle off the mortal coil.

So, at the risk of giving Roseandheather a need for a long visit to a good pub, here are my thoughts on this most grim of topics:

Victor Chachat: I must admit to being a bit surprised that Victor didn't die in Cauldron of Ghosts...he is Eric Flint's creation after all and Eric is pretty much out of the Honorverse at this time. But he still goes in harm's way way more than most of the characters'do and he is still on Mesa at last report.

Benjamin Mayhew: ART mentions how much older he looks, and while he should still have many years left, he is reaching the age where something sudden could strike, givne the toxic planet he lives on--and he still has enemies (Masadans and Steadholders) who wouldn't mind seeing him dead.

------------

Hutch --

Victor Chachat: -- do YOU want Thandi coming after YOU ?
I know she is a fictional character and you (presumably) are in this mortal vale, but that might not protect you.

Benjamin Mayhew -- I suspect Benjamin will survive to at least Bernard's later teen years -- Similar to Roger III's untimely (assisted) death that brought Elizabeth III to the throne. I agree that Michael will likely be Regent (or chief Regent) since he does have prolong with Honor and likely the elder Harrington's on the council.

Somehow, the Mesan Alignment will be responsible for the death of Klaus Hauptman.

Might Klaus or Stacy be in line for Treecat assignment (or for Stacy, possible adoption) ?

I think 'assigning' a guard cat to either of them would be very dangerous, politically speaking. Protecting monarchs, ministers and military commanders is in the interests of the Star Empire as a whole, but Klaus and Stacy are, ultimately, just private citizens. Why should they receive personal 'cats when the overwhelming majority of their fellow citizens don't?

I agree that assigning a cat guard to Klaus or Stacy would be politically risky, but as for adoption, I suspect that cats are not overly politically sensitive and they are the ones who normally initiate the adoption.

Does anyone remember the timing of when Samantha adopted Hamish?

What if the treecats start making a list of influential Manticorians and assign themselves to those people?
