I call that the "State Stupidity Tax". Here in California, they use some of the vigorish to fund education. That could be self defeating - they might stop being dumb enough to buy lottery tickets.

I received several positive emails regarding this one of mine from the Artificial Intelligence thread, so I thought it worthy.

It is interesting that man has the nerve and audacity to think that at some point he can create life, but that an entity long ago couldn't have beat him to it. ;)

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

But it's foolish to make the assumption when there's no evidence that it happened.

There are none so blind as those who will not see. (The human thumb bends under control at the knuckle. No other kind has that, and no other kind uses such a variety of tools.)

Under socialism, people wait for bread. Under a free market, bread waits for people.

Experience is the best teacher, other people's experience. (But you remember it better when OUCH ;) )

In other words: Those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it.

Ebola is treatable, stupidity is not

BUT willing ignorance can be cured, if the patient will cooperate.

Please, exercise your right to an informed vote.

That way, when government's big dog bites you in the ass, you'll have the peace of mind that you at least tried to avoid it.

And who knows, you may just help save a piece of your ass, along with your peace of mind.

Practice increases any skill: don't practice willing ignorance!
