On the other hand, they could use for free energy. Just hook turbines up to their graves, and the spinning would power the planet for years.

If Faith's short reign as Steadholder Harrington can be used as an example, Honor and Michael would be just two of several on a Board of Regents. Michael would probably be Chairman, or whatever title Howard Clinkscales held as the head of Faith's Board of Regents.

If Benjamin dies before his heir is of age, I suspect that we'll see a full-blown constitutional crisis on Grayson. There are several Steadholders, even among those who support Benjamin's reforms on foreign relations and the place of women in society, who'd quite like to see a return to the old days when the Protector was a figurehead and the Keys ran everything. The battle over who gets appointed to the Regency Council could be highly interesting - when viewed from a safe distance.

Think, the MWW has never been shy about killing off his "good guys" when the plot demands it, as he did in AAC (Giscard, McKeon, Jamie Candless) and MoH (Miranda and Farragut, Andrew (that one hurt), and Wesley Mathews). The last couple of books haven't given much chance for that, given the disparity of weapons, but with the MAlignment about to take the field and the expectation that at first their stealthed craft will take their toll, it wouldn't surprise me to see one or more major character shuffle off the mortal coil.

So, at the risk of giving Roseandheather a need for a long visit to a good pub, here are my thoughts on this most grim of topics:

A couple of people were not considered in the previous message.

Dame Estelle Matsuko: Not too likely, but Agnes Nordbrand is still out there . . .

Earl White Haven: If Tom Theisman could make the supreme sacrifice for President Pritchard, somebody trying for Elizabeth might find Hamish in the way . . .

True enough, but I had done enough to enrage roseand heather, didn't want to take my life in my hands...you're braver than I am, apparently. (It's timopussycat rose! Not me!!)

Yeah, it could happen, but somehow I don't see it. And we'd probably lose Samantha too, and how that would affect Nimitz (and Honor) is anybody's guess.

What would happen to Torch if a follow-up assassination attempt on Queen Berry succeeds?

The MALign certainly wants her dead; Berry is obviously a strategic target.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

They really don't give a damn about her. They want the planet depopulated. Ideally with something that made it unlikely anyone would remain in the system.

My guess would be that any planets Torch even remotely suspects of being linked to MALign will soon suffer mysterious impacts from small, say missile sized, objects traveling at insanely high speed...

My guess is that Torch isn't suddenly going to go into the genocide business.
