Well, let's take a dispersion of shells is about 2% (looks like a pretty good results for the late XIX-type naval guns, especially build by someone that never build something like that before). So, by the 10000 meters range, the dispersion would be... Around 200 meters (roughly; actually the spread would be greater by range and lesser by angle).

It would work almost perfectly against enemy ships, but against coastal artillery - where the goal is to hit the guns (especially if the enemy have some sort of anti-shrapnel defense and have a reserve gun crews) - this doesn't look like a good idea.

Actually, as i recall, during the Dardanell campaing, the french battleshipsoperated no more than 2000 from the coastal guns, and still was unable to completely destroy

Well, it maybe somewhat usefull in teror bombardment of coastal towns, but i failed to see how in Safehold situation it could be used for something more effective than shelling the populated areas.

Or plunging shot into coastal forts the beasts were designed to contend with in the first place ;)

You need the width between the guns to load them. That width means that a large radius is required to mount wheels on the turning carriage to support the tons of weight. A single gun mount could and would be much smaller, as would an actual turret. You need a broad support to support guns that high. Now you might lower the main deck under the barrette to lower it. I would extend a fixed splinter shield all the way back past the ammunition elevator for better crew protection. this is the way it has to be for a tail mount. Hmm might try turntable central mount. but again the radius to support the wheels supporting the gun carriage will rear it's ugly head you don't want the out board. part of the carriage unsupported ;) I'll draw it to show you what I mean, or end up eating crow ;)

Oh, it would unodubtly be spectacular. They would literally shred the forts apart. Destroy all buildings. Destroy walls. Make a scratch or two on the fort's guns, and if the KH's gunners would be lucky, they may even wound one or two Temple Boys in garriosn. ;)

The constant problems with the fortification is that the fort itself isn't important. To silence the fort, you should destroy not the buildings, but the guns. And THIS is pretty hard to the naval artillery.

Long-barreled guns, that tried to work as howitzers... This isn't going to work. The dispersion would be too great. If the Church engineers give up the stone walls and make a good use of the earthworks, even the "Iowa" guns would have the same problem.

You need the width between the guns to load them.

For what reason? They are breech-loaders.

That width means that a large radius is required to mount wheels on the turning carriage to support the tons of weight.

And hundreds of tons of armour weight.

Dilandu can I have curly fries with that crow?

Only 39 feet diameter compared to the 44 feet of the pin tail. You got a tooth pick to get these crow feathers out of my teeth.

 Wow.
Dilandu, your design is so awesome. :D

On a technical note, may I ask if you used some specialist program to draw it or just regular graphics program like photoshop?

Is the yellow dots portholes? I wonder how far in the future they will start welding those shut because they are weakspots.

As I understood it most older ships had portholes because there where no forced ventilation and without those portholes it would become unbearable hot below deck (depending on the weather ofc).

No, the problem was simply a comfort. Crews, locked in the porthole-less metal box wouldn't be exactly happy about that.

Moders warships has less portholes as the anti-nuclear precaution, not because it somehow affect ther integrity.
