I think this is a dangerous path...
Not only is it going to be very difficult to prove that what they are saying is the truth, but they even risk to undermine one of their strong point: "everyone knows that Seijins were fighting on the side of God". If they disclose the SSK documents, they will prove that it was not the case (and thus that Merlin and Nimue might indeed be seijin, but fighting for the evil Shan Wei)... And they are going to make the SSK known publicly, while it is very important for the Charisian Empire to have them remain unknown, and thus potentially still infiltrated Inside the Church... This is the kind of revelation that should come when they are ready to diclose the truth itself, and that's not something they can do in the middle of this war. That's something they've got to do from a very very strong position. A position that they have not reached yet... |

I agree. It's sort of like that trunk full of evidence documenting temple corruption that Nynian sent along that Cayleb decided not to use until Charis could be using it from strength. Don When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

Does the SSK need to be made public? Might their information not be revealed without admitting the organization exists? I believe that might be possible.
Suppose that the documents were "discovered" in a basement in some abbey. Further suppose that Khody's Sword wad also discovered to punctuate the documents veracity. I doubt the diary will be released but then again it might be. |

Hi PeterZ,
Glad we're thinking alike. ![]() I did mention such ploys in my original post, you know. ![]() Although I think the SSK might appreciate having OWL make a copy of Khody's sword for the public, while they hold onto the original, might prove to them Merlin is indeed a seijin since he can produce more such miraculous weapons. I'd still appreciate some new ideas as to how they can put this all out in front of the remaining faithful. L [quote="PeterZ"]Does the SSK need to be made public? They can't be secret at all, because the CURRENT Writ chronicles Shan-Wei's "fall from grace" which happened a century or more after Creation! It should be obvious to anyone with two working brain cells that the Writ has been changed since Creation even if the details of what was changed has long since been forgotten. And no one but the SSK would have a problem with this because no one would be questioning the divine goodness of the Archangels who made the changes. Of course the SSK do question it. And if they somehow get that attitude to spread to the rest of Safehold, THEN people might start getting interested in the "Original flavor" Writ as being truer to God's Will. OTOH, that's not really what the Merlin's Inner Circle wants though it may be a step in the right direction. |

I am kinda curous. What's the point of posting "Spoiler", when you put the spoiler in the thread title?

I'm with Dilandu. No point preaching true Heresy, not yet at least. Especially in the end when it will discarded for the actual truth.
The Empire of Charis buys in to the writ, and the Archangels, and all that fun jazz. Attacking that has way to many chances of backfiring. They don't buy into the Church's secular power. Opposing the Group of Four is something the average Charisian would do happily, challenging the Writ is a whole different story. For now, things can and will change in the future. |

I think that the SSk should release copies of its holy writ originals after the group of four have been defeated,
when they decide that it is time to try to prove that holy writ itself is a lie. Then they could release their copies of the holy writ and also release copies of the early holy writ that Nimue found in her cave after she woke up. |

I'm of the opinion that releasing the pre-WotF version of the Writ would at best be a historical curiosity. It would be academically interesting, but would be ultimately disregarded by mainstream Safehold (on both sides) as being irrelevant to current events. The original version of the Writ would have about as much impact on Safehold as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls had on modern religion, which is to say pretty much nothing.
Of course the remaining Archangels made changes to the Writ. They're the Archangels! God's chosen agents in the world. If God tells them to make changes, they make changes. Now, if the SSK could somehow convince a substantial portion of Safehold that Chihiro and Schueler were the real Bad Guys of the WotF, then that might be a different story. |
