As I've said before - gunpowder. That is really an anomaly. On Earth it was stumbled on as part of an alchemical tradition, but with the books of Pasquale and so on, there wouldn't have been anything like that on Safehold. And it took a long, long time to go from the invention of gunpowder to guns even as good as the OAR guns, primitive as they are. Its happening faster on non-innovative Safehold just doesn't make sense... without some kind of intervention.

We have no evidence whatsoever that the SSK have any technical knowledge plus the WAtF was fought entirely with muscle-powered weapons as far as we know (Rakurai excepted, obviously) so no evidence Khody knew of gunpowder either. I can't see any possible connection other than wishful thinking.

They have good metallurgy if recipe based, they have good knowledge of a lot of pratical things and a cottage industry that exploit that knowledge. So once gunpowder is invented and okeyed by the Church, this is not really
astonishing that pratical softbores were made.

I agree that gunpowder invention itself is a bit more perplexing, especially as it is not something you are likely to stumble upon only per chance. Depending on which fertilizers are described by Pasquale, there may be a path, but it seems a stretch.

In fact, if it comes from the fertilizer path, I would have expected Ammonium nitrates based explosives to have beed discovered first, as it is a very good and easy to prepare fertilizer.

Perhaps another 'time capsule' A'la something like the Knowles revaluation. Poor Langhorne's faction they thought they had all their bases covered, ah but human cunning comes through, again, Oopsie!

I think there are a few other Nynians and secret societies on Safehold. But I doubt they will appear in this story arc in the Books by the MWW.

Yeah, the only way they'd appear is if they bring something special to the table. Unfortunately, with Nynian, all the bases seem to be covered.

There's the hypothetical Siddarmark group, but Siddarmark is already allied with Charis so there's no need for any such group to out themselves.

Maybe they are buried in...of all places...Harchong! Wouldn't that be an unlikely way for our devious author to surprise us...

I am wonderinf what other secrets the sister hood has gathered over the yaers. THey are deeply suspicious of the church due to their history, so i bet when every something was altered or changed by the church, they would record and possibly keep a copy just in case. probally stashed and sealed away until the time is deemed right. They might even have an unaltered books of the angels, seigin, adams and eves and other saints.

At this point I expect we will get a tidbit from Hanth or Green Valley. RFC has given us tooooo much to chew on and needs to clear our literary palette. Any resolution is not to be anticipated

Well the 'hypothetical Siddarmark group' can still play a role once the truth about the Archangel is out.

Right now they are mainly fighting against the Mother Church leadership, they still have to fight the belief system that Langhorne has built up once the Go4 is defeated.

Maybe the 'hypothetical Siddarmark group' has been preparing the people of Siddarmark for that day (similar like how Knowles's group was preparing the Charisian rulers), afterall, somehow the people of Siddermark has accepted and adopted a 'republic' form of government, maybe some group was responbility for this?
