SWM , sorry about any unwanted spoilers, I had assumed you were reading the snippets and everything I have speculated about was revealed in Snippet #5. Also the thread title, at the top of the page says (SPOILERS) so anyone who reads a topic so marked should expect spoilers in any post. Perhaps we should also warn about snippet spoilers for those who haven't read all the snippets yet. 8-)

As for your last paragraph (which I have not quoted), I'm afraid that you have just given me some unwanted Spoilers. Please be careful about that in the future. Spoilers must be carefully marked as such.

SWM, the original title for this thread is marked with a spoiler alert. Somebody changed the title later and dropped the spoiler alert.

The thread was marked as a spoiler only after I reported the post with the unmarked spoiler. Otherwise I would not have been reading this thread. I don't read spoiler threads. I will have to stop reading this thread now. :(

That's why unmarked spoilers are a problem.

The thread is marked as SPOILERS now. It wasn't marked when you posted the spoilers.

Did the inquisition start out as a totalitarian police force suspicious of all safehold citizens or was it intended as simply a church internal affairs division to oversee the members of the clergy and protect the church from corruption?

I am pretty sure that it was mentioned in one of the previous books that the inquisition had been focused on keeping the church orthodox, and that Clyntahn (?sp) had expanded the power of the inquisition outside the church.
