Oh lordy that looks oddly plausible...

Not on Safehold, but it would be a logical form of crime in the Terran Federation, though I suspect it would not have been via SNARC at that time. Probably treated as a form of murder in the criminal statutes.

But the corollary might also have existed for a short time, where someone voluntarily gave up their body for somebody else. I would expect that that would have been outlawed fairly quickly, and might have influenced the introduction of limits on PICAs later.

Not necessarily a SNARC, but a purpose built device the SIZE of a SNARC sounds feasible given Federation tech. How big is a PICA's "brain" again?

Yes, because EVERYONE in the Operation Ark command crew was stickler for Federation Law and would NEVER dream of doing anything illegal, right?

Food for thought people:
My lovely imagination has come up with this hypothesis (I mentioned I had some thoughts running through my head in the comments of HFQ Snippet #1) well here it is:

Sejin Kody was a PICA (too much evidence points to that) now who out of Shan Wei's group had a PICA? We know only one was packed but we all assumed it was activated only when "Merlin" woke up at the beginning of OAR.
Who said Kau-Yung Pei or a close ally or another of Shan Wei's hidden operatives didn't activate Nimue to trial the 'hacked' software to ensure that 'she' could be active greater than the 10 day cycle so that she could do the true mission of Operation Ark. Afterall it would be no good if the hack did not work.
After trialling the effectiveness of the hack he or someone else on his team shut Nimue down and wiped the memory.

Anyway just some food for thought :o :D

Not too likely.

Sejin Kody has too different a personality than Merlin.

Kody was known too have surrounded himself with many women.

Merlin doesn't operate that way.

Well it's the user who gives the hardware any personality.

More importantly, didn't RFC say somewhere that each PICA was customised for it's owner so that no one else could use it? Probably that could be overcome but it doesn't seem likely they would take the chanced of compromising tyhge hardware got a live test of something they could have computer modelled. Besides I suspect the appearances of Kohdy we know about are too late for that. Probably more mileage in the Dread Captain Roberts scenario!

Some idle thoughts I've had about the first two snippets and what the information in them entail...

  • The organisation Nynian is part of has been around since almost the beginning.
  • In light of the reprogramming of the colonists and their absolute faith in god because of this, the organization can only have been started by someone who knew the truth firsthand and it's implications. It's not very likely either that one of the re-reprogrammed colonists started the organization.
  • If it was started by someone with firsthand knowledge it had to been someone from Shan-Wei's enclave OR someone from Langhorne's faction that switched sides (or at least knew that status quo couldn't be kept forever).
  • The organizations goal has likely to do with the 1000 year timetable (hence the low profile stance they have had so far).
  • If the organization has been around for 800 - 1000 years it stands to reason that they probably have agents almost everywhere that is deemed important.
  • What if Sejin Kohdy was one of the re-reprogrammed colonists? It may explain his "antics", a disillusioned man can do a lot of strange things which doesn't really conform. He may have spoken up against the church and because of that the church censored him from all official documentation.
  • It's entirely possible that Nynian doesn't know everything about the organization and it's goal (compare Charis and the inner circle).

Anyway, time for a cup of coffee...

Why has it to be there from the beginning or almost the beginning?

The notion of other PICAs coming on the journey from earth has been ruled out by RFC, IIRC. However that doesn't rule out the possibility that someone manufactured one upon arrival. Owl did it after all.

There is no evidence of which I'm aware to suggest that Seijin Khody is anything other than a flesh and blood human being who probably had at least limited access to TF tech.

1) It was mentioned in this snippet that Jeremy Knowles wasn't the only person to leave a record of "what really happened". Thus the person leaving a record lived at about the same time as Jeremy Knowles.

2) It was mentioned in this snippet that this organization is older than the Brethren's secret organization. The Brethren's "secret brotherhood" started about four centuries after Jeremy Knowles's time.
