Don't forget, the Temple was built AFTER the War of the Fallen started (If not after the war itself) and iirc Bedard did not survive the war. If the Church of Bedard was built a year after the Temple of Zion itself, It would have been built after Bedard's death - or the perfect time to hijack a portion of the religion with it's segment leader dead and the entire church in flux reeling from the War of the Fallen.

A separate Church, away from the main structure yet still externally espousing the same religion, would be the perfect place to hide something - especially if the one leading the effort had perfect credentials in the church's eyes.

Intriguing thoughts.

While the little bit of Bedard book we know of (From Maykel sermon in Charis) seems to indicate a much more self critical goal for the church and its servants, that is still quite a small difference to warrant clandestinity for several centuries. With church tenets goals similar or at least compatible with church of Charis, the serious difference of perspective would be what ?

The one key point of Merlin report nobody commented yet is the battlesteel toughness of Nynian principles. Nobody is surprised but it seems something in the report make them stand. Merlin fear those principles may be a problem if everything is revealed to her.

It could be that what is in the secret texts about Safehold origin is different from Brethens revealed truth. Her group may not derive from shan-wei but from a splinter of the command group opposed to Langorne and Shuller actions.

I would presume that Bedard, being a part of Langhorne's inner circle, would have been present at the meeting where Pei Kauyung set off his vest pocket nuke, and as a consequence, did not survive. There is no textev to contradict this to the best of my knowledge.

It occurs to me that this might be an opportunity to get some insight into what's going on in the Temple. If OWL could make an incredibly stealthy passive bug in the shape of something carried by one of Clyntyhn's clerks, the semantic equivalent of a cross, for example. One of Nynian's people could swap it, and recover it at the end of the day. A brothel would be an ideal place to exchange it, while they're otherwise "occupied".

No, I have not figured out how to explain to the operatives how it helps.

If the Temple detects it and sets off alarms, none of Nynian's people are there. But they might eventually be located by the Inquistion, depending on the situation.

The downside, of course, is that if it is detected, then the Temple (and it's AI) will be warned that someone is peeking at them. But hopefully, if such a bug could be made, OWL would know how to do it.

Ooh, good catch. Here's another one:

Where else have we seen a Zionite with principles just as ironclad as Nynian's?

The Wylsahn family of course. And no one thinks they're a Shan-Wei sleeper group. The Wylsahns were given instructions from the "Archangel Schueler" himself, which is why they aspired to be the best priests they could be.

Which would suggest Nynian's group was created from similar "holy" origins.

Given that the post Kau-Yung leaders of the Church seem to be Chihiro and Schueler, it implies that Bedard got blown up with Langhorne.

Thank you RFC for the snippet. It's taken "Aviah - Nynian hours to tell her story". I can hardly wait to read more about her. What a story it must be.

Another question, what was the time frame for Seijin Khody? We know from Nynian's anecdotal comment that there were no seijin sightings for about a thousand years which would place him in the period of the War against the Fallen.

Since he is not on the official sejin list, could he have had a falling out with the powers that be which at that time would have been archangels? If this latter is true, his view of that archangels could turn out to be the same, or at least similar to Jeremiah Knowles.

Or could he have been another of Shanwei's reeducated seedlings who chose the role of Seijin Khody as well as founding Nynian's group? Arguing against that would be that Nynian herself seems to have only partial knowledge of humanity's origins and has what Merlin calls a different perspective on what happened. Reinforcing this would be that Nynian's group is in possession of a written document (written by Seijin Khody???) which means that they are not simply relying upon oral tradition.

So who is Seijin Khody? Does anybody have anything else to add? :?:

Who is/was Seijin Khody?

Up until these two official HFQ snippets, we had no text evidence that he was a real person.

I have wondered if he was another PICA operating after the War against the Fallen.

Hopefully David Weber will tell us more in the next snippet.

According to the public stories he seems to have had very 'biological' interests for a PICA ;)

RFC said Khody didn't:

The thought occurs that "Khody" could be a corruption of "Quixote" and he could well be entirely fictitious. Nynian's organization could be the evolutionary descendant of a Don Quixote fan club.

Well, Merlin enjoys a good drink and in the Federation plenty of people had sex while in their PICAs (including many who wanted sex while in the "opposite sex mode").

Don't forget that Merlin had sex with one of Aivah's girls.

Of course, the basic personality of an individual doesn't change when its copied into a PICA.

A guy, who in the flesh, strongly liked lovely ladies wouldn't "give up" that part of his personality in his PICA.

Also, don't forget Merlin's problem after playing water polo naked with some very sexy naked guys.
