i enjoy the Safehold series immensely but I have never read any of the books, I listen to them as audiobooks. I have listened to hundreds of books so far but "Like a Mighty Army" his unique for me. I have listened to the book 4 times now but I have trouble following the military operations. the interpersonal and political conflicts are easy to follow but the actual flow of military events is murky to me. i am hoping that some of you can post some quick summaries of the military ops that happened so I can have a clearer understanding of how events unfolded.
thanks ahead of time to any who post.

You highlight one of the problems one gets with an omnibus epic that RFC is creating with this Safehold series. While I am sure that our Author / Creator has a file-cabinet and database full of info that he uses to maintain continuity and flow, we, his poor readers, lack these resources. Given that the 1st book, "Off Armageddon Reef" (OAR) started at 600 pages and that #7 "Like a Mighty Army" (LaMA) is 650+ pages, there is a lot to be digested.

In a right and proper world, the Author would release a series of helpful guides for us baffled readers and provide them gratis since they are to help us enjoy the work. Some of our fellow fans have worked with RFC to provide ever-improving atlases and maps, but things like a historical atlas, a battle timeline, a concordance and other such reader's aids are not anywhere to my knowledge. Of course with RFC's vociferous fan base and multiple story universes, the thought of him undertaking what could be called a multi-year task of doing these 'reader aids' is somewhat low in the perceived order of priorities.

So then, perhaps like some of the efforts I have seen in other author fictons, like Anne McCaffrey's PERN universe, fan authors will undertake the task(s) to produce these needed works. As this would fall into the category of (likely) unpaid volunteer work requiring considerable effort aimed towards a particular group, do I see any hands raised?

There are maps, and a VERY extensive glossary and character list in the printed books (Without checking, I think it ran to about 70 pages in LAMA). I can't follow the military action without consulting maps either and I'm reading it.

There is a wiki at Safehold.wikia.com but I don't know how extensive or helpful it is. You could have a look there.

The best map is online

Although I'm not sure if it is quite up to date.

I made up a crudely annotated map of LAMA which is available at http://www.nfgarland.ca/Safehold_MTnT2.jpg. You need to view at high mag to see the annotations.
