Equal time, Christian intolerance http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2724720/Five-year-old-girl-banned-eating-chicken-sandwich-nursery-staff-wasn-t-halal.html. When will people quit forcing their religious beliefs on others, especially innocent children!

Daryl,
It is not my advice but that of Christ. It is His teaching that I repeat, not my own. If you find this praiseworthy, then you also find Christianity praiseworthy for this is the core of Christianity. Just as there are Muslims who are praiseworthy for rejecting objectionable elements of Islam, there are Christians who are blameworthy for not following Christ's supreme imperatives. You have posted that you have issues with Christianity. I suspect that you really mean you have issues with some Christians, if you find the core Christian tenet to be good. I am not trying to say you must believe, only that you find "love thy neighbor as thyself" good advice to follow. |

Love thy neighbour and do unto others are great foundations for a healthy society. In my case I am admittedly somewhat bitter and twisted from years of being physically (not sexual) abused as a defenceless child by church members.
That being so I still today as a mature (oldish) adult see examples of behaviours by declared Christians and Christian organisations that are the opposite of those two tenets. At the present moment on this forum there are declared Christians who are actively fanning racial hatred, one even advocating that all American citizens whose ancestors came from Africa be deported. A little bit rough when their great grand parents were born in the USA, and hardly loving thy neighbour or doing unto them as he would want to have happen to him. The current paedophilia scandals involving systematic cover ups which lead to further anguish for the victims are not isolated incidents but widespread. I also believe that the many churches who actively fight against gay and women's rights are in breach of these basic moral principles. I recall getting into trouble 50 years ago for pointing out that my Methodist grandmother would have condemned wall banging (if she knew what it was) as it might have led to something sinful like dancing.

One has to wonder if training and arming the Kurds is such a good idea, if or when the short term benefits have been gained? If; (Big if, I know!) they are able to get control of the Mosul oil fields and the dam, and keep it, they’ll have control of most of northern Iraq, and their leadership will be sorely tempted to proclaim an independent Kurdistan. My own attitude towards the Kurds have always been a bit ambivalent. On the one hand you had a Kurdish (liberation?) terrorist movement like the PKK with it’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, that didn’t leave Peru’s Shining Path behind, when it came to atrocities against civilians in their fight for independence. That being said the Kurds have been kicked around by history almost as much as the Jews. Stubbornly retaining their culture and language despite numerous attempts to force them to assimilate. Saddam’s slaughter of them; including the use of chemical agents, is just one in a long line of iniquities they have had to face. ISIS’s current crusade against them is just the latest. So the question is will an independent and resurgent Kurdistan be a source of stability in the area? Or the cause of increased tension? Seeing that there are large Kurdish minorities in most of the countries surrounding it. The strategy of arming groups or people in the area has seemingly; the last few times, come around to bite the donor countries hard in the ass! Here Afghanistan and Iraq are prime examples. Will the Kurds put forward their own “Putin” doctrine in regards to oppressed fellow Kurds among their neighbors‘? Just as a point of interest it should be pointed out that Salah-al-Din-Yusuf ibn Ayyub, better known as Saladin was a Kurd. |

Right on! Piss off the country with the most powerful military in the world! In post-Saddam Iraq it was hard to distinguish friends from foes, with the resulting inconclusive mess that now exists. But if ISIS makes good on it’s threats, all they are doing is giving the enemy a face and that’s a lot different. The pinpricks Obama so far has authorized will surely be massively increased. |

As the Sunnis and the Shiit say, compared to Christians and Jews, Kurds are almost Muslims.
I agree with your main point. Arming the local sects generally turns out bad. Just look at the anarchy that Libya has degenerated into. Have certain members of this forum forgotten how giddy they were about that Arab Spring BS?

My condolences to his family and friends! Just another indication that the psychopaths have taken over the asylum! Yet they are apparently extremely well financed psychopaths! http://www.dw.de/who-finances-isis/a-17720149 Finances are all well and good, and it’s also reported that one of Saddams generals’ has brought some Iraqi Sunni support to ISIS. But that being said: Who the hell is backing them? With the exception of segments of the Iraqi Sunni community, they’re apparently on the outs with everyone in the area! Hell even Al Qaeda has them on their shitlist! |
