Yep; hard to read the correspondence. Later I will print it off, enlarge it up and read. Thank you. Cool, a first hand account indeed. HB of CJ (old coot) Cm. I love this forum.

Part of the problem is the terms for royalty. First line First page:

Image

1) H.R.H [His Royal Highness] Prince Henry [The Kaiser's younger brother the Prince of Prussia] was received by His Majesty King George V [ King of England and the Kaiser's cozen] in London who implored him to transmit to me verbally that England would remain Neutral if war broke out on the 'Continent' involving Germany & France Austria & Russia. This message was telegraphed to me by my brother in London after his conversation with H.M [His Majesty] the King, & repeated verbally [nite ?] of 29th of July [1914].

Note the Kaiser is saying he had a green light to start the war from the King of England. The date of the note August 10, 1914 written day month in roman numerals last two numbers of year IE 10 VIII 14.

Interesting how many people can't read long hand now, in fact they are no longer teaching it in many of our schools so they will no longer be able to read original historical documents. Shame Say I!

I can read longhand, that's just sloppy writing.
