I wasn't aware that it is a book. Since you've recommended it, I shall. Thanks.

"They're beautiful, Mother," she said softly. "You and Daddy do do good work, even if I say so myself."

And ... we shall add a bit of conceit to Honor's resume. And rightly so.

"Well, Mother is from Beowulf, Miranda. They're all a little crazy there, or so I've heard.

RFC ... if you're a little bored, and wanna do a little doodling ... words instead of pictures, then you can doodle a bit about Beowulf — a few several chapters — you can call it a book, and name it... oh ... Beowulf. :D

Just saying.

Seriously, Beowulf has got to be the most interesting planet in the Honorverse. Other than, of course, those in the Manticore Home System.

I think someone already wrote that poem.

Tom Caparelli is one of my favorites!

One of the best part of the series has been the change in the relationship between Tom and Hamish, from tSVW to AAC and beyond.

The AoV passage of Tom deciding where and when to start the final war-winning campaign, of how Pat Givens has changed her mind to seeing how and why he was a better choice than Hamish for First Lord, but the best is the description of his leaving "the pit" carrying the full weight of the war on his broad and unbowed shoulders.

Not that I expected Hamish to have been chosen, but I think he would have hated missing all the action, and possibly been less attentive to his duties than Tom.

Once OB has been put behind them, and the SL defeated, I almost wish Tome gets a fleet command to show his stuff, but I know that's not going to happen.

Oh, Tom Caparelli!! That man needs an enormous hug.

I'm still holding out hopes for a short story featuring the Silesian incident which was mentioned in Ashes of Victory hopefully showing Capareili commanding a ship or squadron in combat.

Admiral Couvosier talking to Honor about Grayson in Honor of the Queen
"Yeltsin hadn't even been surveyed when they left Sol"..
"At any rate, the "Church of Humanity Unchained" set out on a leap of faith, with absolutely no idea what they were going to find at the other end."...
"They wanted to get away from "the corrupting, soul-destroying effect of technology"."...
"It was really a rather elegant concept, you know, using technology to get away from technology."...
"Unfortunately, they got a rather nasty surprise at journey's end.Grayson's a pretty nice place in many ways, but it's a high density world with unusual concentrations of heavy metals, and there isn't a single native plant or animal that won't kill any human who eats it for very long. Which meant, of course- "
"that they couldn't abandon technology and survive" Honor finished for him, and he nodded.

I found the above passage which explains how Grayson was colonized and what they found when they got there fascinating. Just imagine going to another planet which no idea what it would be like. Talk about a leap of faith.

I have been re-readign the books recently.
I missed the characters and it was good to realise that it doesn't matter how many times I read the books, some passages or one-liners still feel like the first time I read them.

"She felt... empty. Emptier than the wind or space itself, sucked clean by the silent undertow of entropy" FOD

I love this line. It kills me every time I read it, but it's just beatifully written.
--

"Bushwah!"
--

"C-c-c-clubs, My Lady?" The major gasped for breath, holding his aching ribs with both hands, and tears of mirth gleamed in his eyes. "Those... those aren't clubs, My Lady - they are baseball bats!" FIE

I love Andrew, deeply. And this scene it's just brilliant.
--

"You want pretzels with your beer, Skipper?" FIE
--

"There were debts no death could pay, and she was so tired of death."
--

"Skipper, I've got the most beautiful sight in the goddamned universe out there!" Scotty half-shouted, swearing in her hearing for the first time in her memory. "It's gorgeous, Skipper" HAE

I always imagine Scotty jumping like a kid excited for presents on a Xmas morning.
--

"Oh, stop moping, Mac! It's not like I'm abandoning you."
[...]I'm only to be gone for about eighteen hours."

I know this one it's not much of an interesting quote, but it hit me yersterday when I started IEH.
I realised "Drat, she'll be gone for two years. He'll think her dead." It should be one of those nice moments between Mac and his Captain but I just wanted to cry.
--

"That was why he felt that dreadful flash of anger. Because however deeply his impotence shamed him, it was real. Because he longed to be worthy of their respect, and could not be." IEH

... just because I am not enough in love already with Thomas.
--

"You just keep right on, Sir." Harkness told him confortably "And the next time you need to find your posterior, you can use your own flashlight." EOH
--

"White Haven reached out, his fingers trembling, and touched her face on the com as gently as he might have touched a terrified bird, yet the terror was his, and he knew it."
"He was afraid to so much as breathe lest oxygen wake him and destroy this impossible dream, and he realised he was weeping only when his display shimmered." EOH
--

"Merry Christmas, Wesley" AoV
This one is definitely in the top 20 of my favourite quotes.
--

"Hamish Alexander stood on Benjamin the great's flag deck with his hands clasped behind him and tried very hard not to feel a sense of godlike power." AoV

I am sorry but everytime I read this passage I imagine him all dressed in black and The Imperial March playing in the background. And I laugh.
--

"Live, or die, she and Giscard would fight to the last ditch together." AoV
*grabs her tissues* *sniff*
--

"She was tired. Not physically, but with a soul-deep heart sickness that had driven her spirit to its knees, and she could no longer fight the inevitable." WoH
--

"Scotty? You got Scotty for me?" Cardones' white teeth flashed in an immense grin "Dare I hope that you got me Harkness as well?" "Where one of them goes, the other is certain to turn up." Honor said dryly
--

"We just can't do it, Eloise. I won't do it. Not after how much blood you and I shed to prove we are not the People's Republic." WoH
--

"We are her personal life," Mattingly said flatly. "We are as much her family as her mother and father, as Faith and James. Except that we're the expendable part of her family... and everyone knows and accepts that. Except her." AAC
--

"Don't make me kill any more, Madam President. Please." MoH

This gives me goosebumps. Every time. You can feel Thomas' anguish, his pain...
Thomas is one amazing character. (Yes, I have a soft spot for him)
--

"He ran out of time, love" MoH Andrew's death is one of the many that I still haven't processed. Nope.
--

"The Peeps won't get us, baby," he whispered. "We're safe now." He drew a ragged breath. "Mommy made it safe." SVW
--

And now I need chocolate -tons of it - to compensate for all the angst.

Very nice content in this awesome post. I feel as though I owe you, at least the ticket price of admission, a large tub of popcorn, goobers, a large pop ...

Thanks! Again, great material. I enjoyed it immensely.
