And the automatic and perfect by default solution seems to always be a gun.

You employ snipers with .50 BIG because it takes fewer people to interdiction the border and it is extremely difficult to get infected from a mile away. This is extreme worst case scenario. It would be better to simply have a rational policy to control the border and have more legal immigration.

Of course the threat posed by illegal immigrants that might be infected by Ebola is only theoretical. However; there are other threats that are very real.

Of course the number of murders committed by illegal immigrants is eclipsed by the number of murders committed by African Americans who are in the US legally. May be we could deport both groups to Europe, Australia and New Zealand to find out if gun control really works?

This is discouraging.

This handy graph reveals that while the total fatalities remain inconsequential, the growth rate is alarming.

Earlier the outbreak had been confined to remote, rural communities where authorities could just seal off the area to allow the disease to "burn itself out" otherwise know as kill everyone. The growth rate suggests that if Ebola gets into Africa's biggest, most densely populated cities, the deaths will be in the tens of millions.

I wonder how long it will take the Europeans to realize that they need to seal their borders against the inevitable flood of refugees fleeing the plague?

My sister is allowing my niece to play around in the stock market to learn. We have taught her to research. Then research. Then research some more. Her research and attentiveness to the news has sparked renewed interest in Ebola, having read THE HOT ZONE quite some time ago. She rang me today and asked "Uncle, do you think the virus that has killed seven million pigs since June 2013, has anything to do with the Ebola outbreak? It's such a big coincidence." :o

I never even considered that myself. Of course, I do not know, but it is a coincidence and certainly worth considering!

She's still only 12-yrs-old, still.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Death toll tops 1000. Experimental drug?

Should be getting my copy of Hot Zone this week.
Does it give any indication of if someone one infected, is also infectious the whole of the incubation (2-15 days) period? :?:
In other words a possible carrier, until the virus manifests itself?

As good as The Hot Zone is, you should never forget that it's also 20 years old. Information found in it may not accurately represent what is happening in Africa right now.
