Do remember what Judith Winton is capable of, too.

[Ugh... edited for godawful grammar. Must proof-read]

It's not their anger or capability I'm questioning, I just think that the others I mentioned will be closer to the scene, so Elizabeth and Judith won't get there in time.

Have I talked about Honor and Estelle yet?

Too bad. I'm going to do it again.

Their relationship is... amazing. It's just amazing. Estelle doesn't go ga-ga over anybody, but she went gaga over Honor. And Honor... I think, with Estelle, she met for the first time a politician she could really respect. They changed each other for the better, and for that reason alone I will always love their enduring friendship.

I wouldn't call Lady Dame Matsuko a politician (back on Medusa) - I figured her role was more that of an extremely senior bureaucrat since she wasn't voted into the 'office'. I suppose she could be called a politician now, but it still feels like a stretch. Although she deals with politics, she does so as a direct representative of the Empress and does not have to seek election.

I will never forget Medusa's ice cold response to her intelligence officer's outrage over Terekhov's departure for Monica. It started "I once knew another Navy captain".

I get where you're coming from, but I called her a 'politician' based on different criteria than you seem to. As one of the Foreign Office's 'heavy hitters' - as I believe I've called her before - Dame Estelle is a government official, and one with a lot of power. She has to know how to maneuver in that world, and Honor - at least as of OBS - certainly doesn't confine her distrust of politicians to elected officials. She didn't like partisan games, but Dame Estelle, bureaucrat or not, is an expert at them, and what's more, knows how to play them. It's the political maneuvering Honor hated, not elected officials on general principle.

File that under the heading "Moments Rose Will Never Be Over Even If She Winds Up With Total Amnesia."

Every time I see her reference Honor in the Talbott books - whether it's "I once knew another Navy captain" or "Let's be about it," I cry a little from sheer happiness.

I seriously doubt that the BSC will get involved if something like this happened. They would not want to be anywhere near Lara' Own Regiment when they started their hunt. You know, the ones Thandi compared to wolves? The ex-scrags and the people who can hang with them out on the sharp end? Anyone who gets in their way, even accidentally, is in real trouble.

While you are counting people you do not want to be in the same galaxy when you try to hurt either of those girls ad Victor Cachet to the list, i think even the ex-scrags would let him interrogate anyone who made an attempt on queen berry's life,
Who remembers the "Interrogation" from Torch of Freedom, I was laughing when he appologized to Thandi about having her see it afterwards though.

At risk of something more recent in this thread (weird how a lot of threads from way back are lively again the last few days) - had to reply to this one particularly.

This relationship is one of the special ones for me too. I don't think it needs to go romantic, though I'd be very happy for them both if it did. As it is, they are, each of them, the other's faithful keeper of their own sacred honor and purpose. Without one another, the mad, precious dream of a Republic of Haven restored to the ideals of its foundation, to the service of its citizens, would never come to pass. That's a kind of trust many lovers never have or never even need of one another, and it's something they already have.

Just one minor nit; I think the Interrogation scene was in "Crown of Slaves" on board the Wages of Sin.

Otherwise I agree totally.

Of course, on any attempt on Berry, he would have to beat Hugh Aria to the perp--hard to interrogate anyone whose head has been forceably removed from their torso... :o

I've been torn on the "will it go romantic?" angle for months.

On the one hand, if Eloise Pritchart was ever going to fall in love again, with anyone, I'd say it could only ever be Thomas Theisman.

On the other hand, I'm not sure my President is capable of falling in love again, because what she had with Javier was so extraordinary.

But in the end, it really doesn't matter. They have each other, in whatever way they end up having each other, and that's the only important thing. They'll have each other in whatever way they need each other, and as long as she's happy, so am I.

Indeed. I don't want to think of Eloise hurting the way she has indefinitely. She deserves to heal and perhaps love again. It diminishes what she had with Javier not an iota. Goodness knows, I'd stay awake at night feeling sick if I thought my loss would leave my wife with a wound only death would ease.
