Isn't that cave sealed up and filled with nitrogen? If so, finding the entrance would only bring them up against a door built of battle steel which would be impossible to penetrate. If by some miracle they did get in, there would be no oxygen for them to breathe. Sounds like a lose-lose situation to me.

It was filled with nitrogen at one time. That was to preserve the contents of the caves for a thousand years. We don't know that it is still filled with nitrogen. And we do know that at least one (living) human has been inside that cave in the last couple years.

Three insurmountable problems: getting up there, breaking through the door (which is camouflaged to blend with the rock face), and breathing pure nitrogen. Oh, I might as well add a fourth too. None of those people would even conceive of an underground bunker buried miles under the mountain. They'd be looking for surface structures or regular old caves.

I guess it depends on whether Merlin restored the nitrogen atmosphere after Sharleyan's visit or left things the way they were. He and Nahrmahn don't need oxygen, and it does lead to corrosion in time, so he may very well have done that. Besides there's a certain security that comes with a house other people can't survive in unless you choose to let them. Cuts down on uninvited guests.
