Although I'm quite impressed, I must point out that the scene with the crossbreed Lemurian/Humans was quite jarring as biology doesn't work that way!

Note that I have nothing against the concept of consenting sentients in a relationship, it's the flaunting of the basic rules of biology (DNA etc) that irks me.

At least with Star Trek, they pulled an "Ancient Astronaut" combined with "Meddling God-like Beings" to explain why humans could interbreed with beings from other planets. Destroyermen has yet to offer any idea as to how two individuals from widely differing branches of the mammalian family could produce viable offspring.

Other than that, great series (although not quite up to Weber standards).
On, and the Destroyermen TVTropes page can be found here.

That was one of the things that; as you say, irked me about Star Trek, the interspecies offspring. I mean it was just taken as a norm, without any explanation. Anyone ( with the exception of Dr. Moreau!) with a basic knowledge would know can’t breed across species.
As for the Destroyermen.
I’m waiting with bated breath, how The Great Wizzard Bernford is going to explain it, without knowledge of DNA at that?

Yah, the cross breeding is kind stretching things big time, but remember it's science and fiction.

@Michael Everett the Posleen are quite similar to the Grik, only no Celestial Mother IE. Empress. They have a weird trait one must suspend disbelief for too, they can eat food from any planet where differences in sinister or dexter proteins, sugars, ect. should kill them :D

Starting on Admiral Kege Fris-Ar our beloved red/brown Naval Bear. Using red ruffed Lemur as starting point has naked black face, hands, and feet, with a black furry tail:

The Lemur is there ok, but what about a hint of "tree-cat"?

The Posleen where genetically modified so they can eat anything, just as the Darhel where modified so that killing (or even getting too excited) would kill them

I'm trying to recall is it specifically said that thew people in Johannesburg(?) are crossbreeds or is it just implied?

I think that it was stated. That other people too had had their "dame shortage".
That they were looked on as an embarassement. Something not done!

Taylor Anderson author of the Destroyermen series is also a gunsmith, and he's making the Doom Wopper see pics http://www.taylorandersonauthor.com/blog/. It's a 20mm as he could not get a 25mm barrel.

Taylor Anderson with his finished Doom Wopper and Springfield 03 for size comparison:

Image

It's not a 25mm (1.0 inch) just 20 mm (0.8 inch) but with a Minie ball should give a good thump.
