Here is a study detailing a longevity serum which apparently reverses the aging process to some degree. Biggest question i have is long term effects and how widely available will it be to general public? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-12-20/s ... ce/5168580

I'm sure glad there was the first article the second "Study" was incomprehensible.
Something to look forward to, only lets hope David is wrong about it having to be taken during puberty. ________________________________________

The way this study appears is that it is effective on people who are aged as well. If true i hope it works on progeria patients because they desperately need it. |

Well, it´s interesting that this is the first "cure" like this that i see that does not appear to have a major downside.
Like telomeras for example, might extend your life(in theory at least), or it might cause a massive outbreak of cancer. Not my idea of something smart to try out. |

An genuine anti-aging treatment would be a blockbuster and thus multiple pharmaceutical companies have seriously explored this biological space over the last several years. To date it has not gone well. The study author, David Sinclair co-founded a company called Sirtris to investigate this family. It was purchased for a huge amount by GSK, which continued to poor huge amounts of money into the studies for several years. It's not going well. GSK is shutting the operation down but considers its long term potential sufficient to warrant continuing reduced scale research at one of it's other sites. There continues to be a great deal of academic research done in this biological space so it is entirely possible that someone may stumble on a new direction/approach that hasn't been tried. But drugs aren't coming anytime soon. Note - academic research a great source of leads since pharma is lousy at basic research. But as a general rule, most academic research doesn't pan out in drug development for a variety of reasons. |

One minor advance is that Pfizer's patent on Viagra has run out. The price here has dropped from about $20 a shot to $3, so at least part of your anatomy can appear youthful.
