I could be wrong, cthia, but my impression was that the prisoners left behind were from the PRH, not the Manties or their allies. But I could be wrong on this.

As for Hades, I'm pretty sure (no textev to support), that once she was able, Prichard sent a task force to Hades with all the records they could find (I doubt Horace left many useful things in the computers save what was necessary to feed/support the remaining prisioners) and a number of lawyers/advocates to examine the records and prisoners and free all who were unjustly imprisoned and return the others to alternative jails elsewhere in the RH.

As for Hades...I think it's unique biology may attract scientists and researchers, but I doubt it would be worth the effort to colonize.

IMHO as always. YMMV.

You may be right Hutch. I only vaguely remember a passage which stated that all of the passengers 'who wanted' to leave did. My memory is a bit hazy, but I thought some chose to remain behind - that were not PRH citizens. Although I couldn't guarantee it.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Many did choose to stay behind. But there was no mention of Manticorans among them, and it seems likely that all Manticorans would have wanted to leave. There weren't that many Manticorans on Hades to start with.

So Honor will know the winning side of baseball.

As a life-long fan of the Cleveland Indians (second only to the Chicago Cubs when it comes to suffering), I certainly hope so.... ;) 8-)

The local baseball club is pretty high up on the list for time without a championship, though since they're in San Diego, they can't really be said to be suffering ...

Wait, didn't they win when they had Charlie Sheen as their pitcher? :D

What type of readers are people here? I know some people are one-and-done types and never pick up the same book again. Some might wait a couple of years/decades before reading the same book again. And still others are re-readers and can go back over the same books many times in a short period of time. I, myself, fall into the third category. It's why I can usually find passages and whatnot from the HH books quickly. I've read them so many times that I have a pretty good idea of exactly which book (and where in that book) a passage is.

In fact, you could make a very good case that any sailor from an Alliance navy on planet that was offered the chance to escape and didn't would be guilty of desertion and dereliction of duty. Their duty is to continue the fight to protect their home world from the PRH, regardless of danger to themselves. Furthermore, Fleet Admeral (GSN) Herrington had every right, as senior Alliance officer on planet, to order any Allied military person to participate in the escape. So they would also be guilty of disobeying a lawful order. At least two of those are capital crimes in wartime, so I doubt that any Allied personell were left on planet.

I'm sure that you're both right. My memory is fuzzy. I only read that book once. I thought that it was Rear Admiral Style's blustering and overall lack of support and confidence in the plan that frightened some into electing to remain out of fear of StateSec reprisal. I'm probably wrong. No need to be afraid of capital crimes while forever stuck in hell.

No one on the Havenite side has come to suspect Jean-Claude Nesbitt? I thought Usher was somewhat on his trail when he was sniffing around the issue of the correspondence but so far nothing has come of it. As far as I can recall, Nesbitt is still in Nouveau Paris (or Haven) and has not been arrested. I don't really expect Usher to cotton onto the fact that Nesbitt was the one who used the nanites on Grosclaude but Nesbitt did help doctor Grosclaude's files to deep-six any attempt to prove Giancola's complicity. I just wonder when Mesa is going to eliminate Nesbitt as a rather large loose thread.
