Here's one that's a little more obscure (or just not as front-and-center as some of the others). Elizabeth and the head of her security team Ellen Shemais. I get the feeling that they are close especially considering Shemais has essentially been Beth's personal bodyguard since she was a child. I really hope that some sort of failed assassination attempt doesn't deprive Elizabeth of her chief bodyguard because there will be much weeping in the kingdom...

Paul Tankersley and Honor Harrington. Before there was anything there was a friendship. I don't think Honor will love anyone like she loved Paul. Honor laughed. Laughed with Paul. Paul brought the kid out of Honor.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

Everard Honeker and Lester Tourville. Trust. Understanding. Sacrifice. Risk. Friendship.

Eloise and Tom. Friends, confidants, comrades-in-arms... whether that one ever goes romantic or not, I think it's safe to say that her relationship with Thomas Theisman will be one of the defining relationships of Eloise Pritchart's life.

Augustus Khumalo and Estelle Matsuko.
*patiently waits out forum's collective groan* I'm serious, though. All romantic considerations aside - I know, I know, I've been the most relentless champion of them getting together since basically day one and she better be carrying roses in her bouquet is all I'm saying - their relationship is just so interesting. The compelling story of how she goes from polite distaste to warm, open friendship is one of the most compelling I've seen in this series - and all the more so because it takes place largely off-screen. We don't really know what happened between them in the wake of Khumalo's precipitous actions regarding Monica. All we've got is the evidence, and the evidence points to a relationship that did a complete 180 in the space of just a few weeks. It took time to grow, obviously, but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked - I mean when the Mesans attacked. And the truth is, without that friendship, there is no way I could want them together. After all: "It seems to me that the best relationships, the ones that last, are frequently the ones rooted in friendship. You know, one day you look at the person and you see something more than the night before, like a switch has been flicked somewhere, and the person who was just a friend is suddenly the only person you can ever imagine yourself with." I see that quote as being Augustus and Estelle's relationship in a nutshell. The friendship, the warmth and liking, had to come first. And because it did, anything is possible. So whatever does or doesn't happen with them romantically, theirs is a relationship I will treasure more than just about any other. ~*~

He seems to have disappeared from the Narrative....but with the MWW, you never know (this new GA and the political side of the SL conflict will require any number of diplomats...) I recall many months ago one poster here (I am much to lazy to go look it up), postulated that Honeker had retired and written several very popular books on his time with State Security (and with Tourville). So...nobody knows, save the MWW. ***********************************************

And it would be quite popular ... and informative. I maintain, that there should be an Inconspicuous Gallantry medal given to those intangible contributions by people like Everard Honeker. Yeah, I'd wondered what happened to him - he was awesome! Denis wound up in the Cabinet - I wonder what Honeker's up to?? Guess I can put that on my "Information I'd like to know" list! ~*~
