Part of me will always worry about Ruth. I just don't trust the Masadans. I inquired many posts ago about the Star Kingdom's foreign policy towards negotiating with terrorists ... that may somehow manage to kidnap Ruth.

If anyone is stupid enough to kidnap Ruth, Manticore's policy on the matter is going to be of tangential concern at most. The people you want to be worried about are Thandi Palane, Victor Cachat, Anton Zilwicki, Jeremy X and the entire Audubon Ballroom. Possibly also the Biological Survey Corps.

Now that reeks of a good read!

And one I don't think has been mentioned, but has been part of the series since the beginning--Honor and James McGuiness. (Whom I still suspect of being a man of deeper importance than a mere steward *Hutch now removes tin-foil hat*).

And for that matter, Honor and Protector Benjamin--indeed, the whole Mayhew family (and the Clinkscales, for that matter) have been intertwined with Honor (and her family) since "The Honor of the Queen".

Indeed Hutch! Is it safe to say that she fought her way into that family?

On the subject of the Tremaine/Harkness double act, Scotty's already a Captain of the List and commanding a cruiser division. It's only a matter of time before he makes flag rank, given that he's clearly already been marked as a high-flyer and he'll have opportunities aplenty given that he's commanding a division of Sag-C's in Admiral 'Who's for lunch on Mesa?' Gold Peak's fleet. Before too much longer, I suspect he'll be high enough in rank that BuPers won't be able to stretch the regs far enough for a Warrant Officer, even one with the PMV and a knighthood, to serve on his staff. What will happen then? Will the Dread Pirate Horace be forced to finally accept a commision? And if he does, then how long before he makes Captain of the List, with the inevitable progression to flag rank?

Read-Admiral of the Red Sir Horace Harkness has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Sir Horrible Horace Harkness.

That's who will gain Sonja's previous 'horrible' moniker.

These ones are for Rose. Honor and Theisman, Honor and Lester, and (hopefully soon) Honor and Shannon. We need to get some Manty-Havenite 'ships in there.

I also have a "what might have been" potential friendship: Honor and Javier. It's a pity that they never got to meet in person. I would've liked to see how they measured each other up.

Yes Amaroq, that would have been an interesting read. It takes me back to her initial discord with Warner Caslet. It took her so long to actually trust him, like him and call him 'Warner,' that when she finally did he could've 'spewed' his pants. Me too. That's a hard friendship come by. But like I said posts ago ... those are the ties that bind.

Don't forget her relationship with Alfredo Yu. That was probably even rockier initially than Caslet.

I suspect you're right on that. Warner she knew from Silesia and Cerberus. I'm not sure she'd even met Alfredo Yu until he was revealed as her flag captain - he wasn't in Yeltsin's Star when Honor hit the Blackbird base, and he was already off Thunder of God when it arrived for Second Yeltsin.
