A nice little moment of recognition by Elizabeth with respect to Honor from SFtS.

Elizabeth Winton realized something emotionally that she'd long since recognized intellectually. Something Honor's analysis of any possible confrontation with the Solarian League had driven home in this very room only three T-weeks earlier.

Honor Alexander-Harrington had become the closest thing Elizabeth III had to a true peer. Admiral, Countess, Duchess, and Steadholder, the third ranking member of the Star Empire's peerage, a ruling head of state in her own right, and someone who had been born to none of those titles and identities. Someone who had won them. Who'd paid for them in the cold, hard cash of combat, in the loss of people for whom she cared deeply, in all the thousands of deaths—enemy and friend alike—she had taken onto her own conscience in the service of Elizabeth's kingdom, and in her own blood. Someone who had received many of those titles and honors from Elizabeth's own hands because she damned well deserved them.

And that peer—the person, Elizabeth realized now, whose absolute integrity and whose judgment on every other question she most trusted—disagreed with her on this one.

I love this passage Amaroq. I often internalize that if there was a freakish disaster — for instance, something caused by a Mesan planetary strike which wiped out Elizabeth and all legal successors to the throne — then Honor Harrington would become Queen of Manticore.

Some exotic cream in that coffee. :D

Good luck with your studies. And you'll enjoy Scotland; it's a beautiful country with a rich history, and the people are wonderfully friendly, even though they speak funny...

Yea, good luck with your studies. I know that there's an appropriate Scottish saying fer it. Something like "'keeping your nose to the grindstone." Been meaning to ask. Are you Scottish, since Rose is a common Scottish surname?

Thank you!

And whatever makes you think my screen name has anything to do with my real name?

My great-grandmother was a Scott (as in, name and ethnicity), but I'm American born and bred - and a motley of German, English, and Irish, plus a quarter French on my mom's side.

I wasn't certain if your name was just two types of flower/plants mushed together or made some reference to your name. It caught my attention because my name actually is Heather. Lol.

HOLY SHIT THERE'S ANOTHER GIRL ON THIS FORUM??? :o

(I mean, there's also NortonIDaughter, my fellow Haven fangirl, but she hasn't been around for ages. :( )

Yes, it is just two flowers smushed together - derived from "English Roses & Scottish Heather".

My real name may or may not be botanical.

There's also Northstar, although she has been here rather infrequently lately, or if she has been here, she hasn't been posting much.

“By the time you view this, Beth, I’m sure at least some of my professional colleagues are going to have cast a certain degree of doubt upon my alleged mental processes. In this instance, they may even have a point. But I think this is important—well, obviously I think that, or I wouldn’t be doing it.” She shook her head with a slight smile. “Trust me, I’m aware of the risks involved. I’m also aware that when you’ve already got a shooting war with the League on your hands, having someone dash off on her own and open yet another front may not be incredibly high on the list of your priorities. On the other hand, we are already at war with the League. Somehow I don’t see my going calling on Mesa making that situation a lot worse. And the potential return, the chance to actually find proof of the Alignment’s existence—not to mention the possibility of throwing a king-sized spanner into its works—strikes me as well worthwhile.
“The reason this is coming to you as a private message, in addition to and unattached to my official dispatches, is that I want you to understand that I’m doing this on my own authority for a reason. I made it as clear as I could in the official record that I’m acting on my own. “The reason for this message is to tell you that I did it that way deliberately to give you the option of disavowing my actions if that turns out to be necessary. Maybe I’ve been hanging around Honor too long, but this is something that needs doing, and if the price for my doing it is that you’ll be forced to recall me or even court-martial me, it’s worth it.
“Our family has a responsibility here, over and above my responsibility as an officer in your Navy. I intend to meet that responsibility.
“God bless, Beth. I love you.”

Who knew Mike could reduce me to a blubbering pile of snotty emotional goo and make me want to give her the biggest freaking bear hug ever given anyone?

Who knew Mike could actually make me love her more than I love her best friend??

I LOVE YOU MICHELLE HENKE!!!
