I think there was a quote somewhere about RMN operation names being picked by computer.

Yeah, it's been said that they use a random word generator. Laocoon was just more blatantly mythological than many of their other names that it seemed to stand out.

Hi Tonyz,

You've been given the traditional welcome to the forums already, so enjoy!

Your analysis seems spot on, but RFC doesn't do such by accident, so ulterior meanings should be suspected and ferreted out until we're sure he's not holding out on us because sometimes its taken years before we realize just how deep some names go, like White Haven, as some may recall.

Is anyone else seeing something I've missed or is it a case of the name being randomly generated and not having any real significance? I know most Manticoran ops are like that but I just wanted to know if that was the case here.

Laocoon and his sons got tangled up in the coils of a serpent -- the Solarian League is going to get tangled up by the RMN. It's a bit of a stretch, but it seems to fit.

(Then again, it could just be random chance. We do know that the RMN seems to generally pick names out of a random dictionary for operations, so as not to give anything away -- compare "Operation Buttercup" to the Solarian League's "Operation Raging Justice"...)
Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!

How did the Audubon Ballroom get its name?

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

What was the original strategic consideration for Basilisk Station? I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was slated to be used as an ammunition supply depot for Eighth Fleet. Surely it has been upgraded in strategic importance since then. It didn't seem like the terminus was all that important a strategic consideration with such a light picket, and for the banished. Pavel Young was stationed there for gosh darn sakes! Nuff said. I don't understand how a system bearing a terminus could fall negatively under political consideration, being such an important military objective.

IIRC, that is in textev; something about remembering a massacre.

Essentially, it's where Malcolm X (the human-rights activist) was assassinated. This is probably also where the Ballroom members' habit of taking the surname "X" stems from.

Ah, even more enlightenment. Thanks, to you and John both.

I searched it, but made the mistake of cross referencing it with 'Honorverse,' mistake.

Was textev clear on what Victor's role will be now that spying is out?

He can always join the Ballroom.
