But didn't you know? I have begun a subscription campaign around the Talbott Quadrant to support the Hercules being completely overhauled to modern standards, with upgraded fire control and Mk 16 capable launchers. It will be the first proof-of-concept project at the new 'Renaissance' Yards. <grin>

Then they will start on the Medusa II class Apollo SD(P) "Canada"...er...I mean "Talbott".

Actually text-ev (from AoV) has the Minotaurs not as a consistant class but an evolution on the design, with each new build fixing a problem found in earlier ships or maximizing the doctrine as it developed. The Hydras were the point where the the design shifts added 2 more usable squadrons (from the original design) and mostly stabilized the design changes.

So they were like the Sphinx/Gryphon designs, where the last Sphinx built more resenbled a Gryphon than it did the original Sphinx.

If anything, the original design may be preferred in some situations, where with it's deeper ammo magazines allows it to be better able to take care of itself and consorts.

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

The differences between the Minotaur and a Hydra would be like the differences in some WWII ship classes like the differences in the Essex class and the long hull Essex class or the Brooklyn class and St Louis class or the Baltimore class and the Oregon City class
