Now I'm sure some lanes are busier than others; on the other hand an SD sized freighter (large, but IIRC some are even larger) would shut down its lane of the wormhole for one hundred and thirteen seconds; so sometimes physics keeps you from pushing even that ACS minimum limit. (A rough estimate is that the wormhole destabilization time reaches the 1 minute mark around a 6.25 mton transit)

But that Astro Control limit means there'd never be more that 1,440 ships per lane per day. And it sounds like there would normally be significantly less; even on the busiest lanes.

And how do you count a ship that transits in from Lynx and transits out to Trevor's Star? Is that one ship for your count or two? Very probably the majority of transits fit this scenario. After all, the biggest attraction to the MWJ is that it cuts the time from A to B by taking the dogleg through C, instead of a straight line. As large as the MMM is, most of it does not service Manticore, but various systems in the League. So, while the number of transits may be large, the number of ships involved is just over half the number of transits.

Emily, a renowned holodrama actress, who was later paralyzed in a horrible aircar accident.

Is there detailed info regarding this? I'd like to know at what point in the Honorverse timeline did the disaster occur? Is the cause of the disaster known? Could it be the MAlign, executing their first test?

According to HoS the accident happened in 1862 PD, almost 40 years before the start of the mainline novels. I don't believe there was any suggestion that it was anything other than an accident. I don't recall any Mesa/Detweiler scenes where they mention Emily's accident.

No,if you want the huge MA attacks on a government, I suspect that when David and Bu9 do the Confed you'll see that. That was several hundred years ago iirc.

That would depend on whether you're counting Ships or Transits. Personally, I would count transits, because there are ACS DBs running back and forth that would count as one ship, but as many as eight or nine transits per day.

I don't believe that this is quite right. The designations were changed as a result of the 1921 Naval Treaty. Before 1920 a Battleship was simply a "B", a Cruiser was a "C", etc. After 1921, the rule was that ship types had to have a minimum of two letters. Not showing a great deal of originality, "B" became "BB", "D" (Destroyer) became "DD", "S" (Submarine) became "SS". "C" became much more confusing. "CA" was a "First Line" Cruiser from 1920 to 1921; then an "Armored Cruiser" from 1921 to 1931; then a "Heavy Cruiser" if it had 8" or bigger guns. There are lots of other Cruiser designations. "CC" was first a "Battle Cruiser" (until 1961), now "CC" is "Command Cruiser." "CB" was a "Large Cruiser, and "CBC" a "Large Command Cruiser".

There are several Navy web sites that cover these designations.

Anyone else wonder what the Dresden accent sounds like? I don't know if I've ever heard of an accent described as "saw-edged" before. Maybe it's like a Cockney accent?

I wondered about that too Amaroq. My niece says it makes her think of people from Arkansas. Where the ending of some words, mostly ending with the 'w' sound, are butchered, sawed off, and an 'r' sound displaces it. As in Arkansar, and Sarred-off shotgun. Featured on an episode of Matlock, the accent gave a criminal away. It's unmistakable.

She may be wrong, but I like the guess.

I always thought of the more guttural dialects and languages, where a lot of the vowels are swallowed and some of the back consonants move right down into the throat.
