How would the Honorverse be different if we only used technology from our current Era?
Anti Grave plating would be Centrifugally based. Although the ships would look a little different, they wouldn't be too different. Slower acceleration, and slower engines. No Wedges to get moving or hide behind. Nuclear Fission power plants. weaker weapons contact nukes and less numbers of missiles. Conventional explosives. Auto Cannon defences. Rail gun offensive. Radar and stealth Perhaps more like Submarine warfare. ________________________________________

Stories would be slower paced, with any wars taking hundreds of years between engagements without FTL.

One doesn't have to go far to have a war. We have them all the time.
The Earth Mars alliance might fight the Titan group and the Oort Confederacy. The Centauri's and then at 46 LY away, the furthest verge systems would be way out there. Prolong only for the high speed transporters, who age five years on the longest runs, but everyone else ages 95 years. ________________________________________

Sorry to always be a doubter, but you are stating that our current tech is good for light speed trips. Our current tech allows for a top speed of only one in 30,000 light speed. Take a long time to get Centauri (about 150,000 years).

Admittedly Wikapedia isn't a definitive source, but they say that current technology would enable us to travel at a speed that would need to be multiplied by 30,000 to reach one light speed.
I know that the Apollo astronauts reached about 35,000 kph, and a quick calculation gives that as about one 31,000th of light speed.

1c is the speed limit, nothing short of intense gravity goes faster, except this entanglement thing.
Apollo astronauts only were limited by fuel space, distance travelled and having to slow down at the moon. Plus movement inside a solar system is not a direct line. It is a growing orbit not direct, circular like travelling. Same with going to Mars ever larger orbits around the sun. Going to another solar system would be more direct travel and not an orbital link. ________________________________________

A short consideration of the practicalities should convince anyone that current technology just won't let us do interstellar travel in a meaningful time. A trip to alpha centauri at Apollo speed would take 120,000 years.
So we mobilise the world to launch components and fuel to make a huge chemical rocket and reach the maximum theoretical speed of a chemical rocket which is about 50% greater, thus only taking 80,000 years to get there but not breaking to stop. Assuming we do this plus use gravity slingshots, plus run a nuclear ion drive and eventually get to go ten times faster, then it is 8,000 years to get there.
