On My Own

LaFollet
And now she’s on another ride
another fight another mission
And I am sworn by God above
to protect my own Steadholder
And now the night is near
I can make believe she's here

Sometimes I walk alone at night
When everybody else is sleeping
I think of him and I'm happy
With the company I'm keeping
Her crew all goes to bed
And I can live inside my head

Own my own
Pretending she's beside me
All alone
I walk with her till morning
Without her
I feel her noble presence
And when I lose my way I hear
Her voice: “Let’s be about it”

In deep space the hull plate shines like silver
All the lights seem misty like the river
In the darkness, the wedge is filled with starlight
And all I see is her and me forever and forever

And I know it's only in my mind
That I need to watch myself and protect her
And although I know she can’t be mine!
Still I say, there's a way for us

I love her
But when the night is over
She’s not mine
I’m only her protector
Without her
The world around me changes
The stars are bare and everywhere
The decks are full of strangers

I love her
But every day I'm learning
All my life
I've only been pretending
Without me
Her world would go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known

I love her
I love her
I love her
But only on my own.

I'M BAAAAAAACK!!

Sorry about that - I'm getting ready to move overseas and I've spent the last couple days getting stuff for my kitty to be shipped over there with me. So! I have been slacking, but I will slack no more!

Now I'm going to go read everything you've been doing, Gofy!

*sincere apologies*

That's totally OK. I understand entirely, and my 'cat won't rip you apart for it...

Eloise
There's a new Haven in the clouds
I like to go there in my sleep,
Aren't any wars, no cause to weep,
Not in my restored RoH.

There is new trade with Manticore,
There is new peace and liberty,
Nobody turns their backs away,
Not in my restored RoH.

There is a Manty officer,
Brave and honorable pure and true,
She's nice to see and she's soft to touch,
She says "Haven, you honor us so much."

I know a place where no one's lost,
I know a place where no one cries,
Crying at all is not allowed,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

Oh help! I think I hear them now,
and I'm nowhere near finished working and
helping the Committee do its job.
Oh, it's him! It's sir St. Just !

Oscar St Just
Now look who's here
The little madam herself!
Pretending once again she's been `so awfully good,'
Better not let me catch you slacking
Better not catch my eye!
Ten rotten francs Committee sends me
What is that going to buy?
Take that SD
People's Commissioner
And go and serve with Javier Giscard!

We should never have taken you in in the first place
How stupid the things that we do!
The People can't use you, not well anyways!

St. Just meets with several other CPS officials.

Still there 'Loise?
Your tears will do you no good!
I told you go find Giscard and se he does as he should!

Eloise
Please do not send me out alone
Not in the darkness on my own!

[St. Just]
Enough of that, or I'll forget to be nice!
You heard me ask for something,
And I never ask twice!

[THEISMAN]
There's a grief that can't be spoken.
There's a pain goes on and on
Empty chairs on empty bridges
Now my friends are dead and gone

Here we talked of revolution
Here it was we lit the flame
Here they sang about tomorrow
And tomorrow never came

From the staff chair in the corner
We could see a world reborn
And we rose with voices ringing
And I can hear them now!
The very words that they had sung
Became their last communion
In this bleak system at dawn

Oh my friends, my friends forgive me
That I live and you are gone
There's a grief that can't be spoken
There's a pain goes on and on

Phantom faces at the windows
Phantom shadows on the floor
Empty chairs on empty bridges
Where my friends will meet no more

Oh my friends, my friends, I know now
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs on empty bridges
Where my friends will sing no more...

I like your version better. Honor can sing the last verse with Theisman.

[Theisman]
Suddenly I see
Suddenly it starts
Can two anxious hearts beat as one?
Yesterday I was alone
Today you walk beside me
Something still unclear
Something not yet here has begun

Suddenly the world
Seems a different place
Somehow full of grace, full of light
How was I to know that so much hope was held inside me?
What has passed is gone
Now we journey on through the night

How was I to know at last that happiness can come so fast?
Trusting me the way you do
I’m so afraid of failing you
My star nation has got to know that danger follows where I go
There are shadows everywhere
And memories I cannot share

Nevermore alone
Nevermore apart
You have warmed my heart like the sun
You have brought the gift of life
And love so long denied me

Suddenly I see
What I could not see
Something suddenly
Has begun...

(Yes, I did just turn this into a love song. Yes, it is a love song between Theisman and Eloise-as-Haven. No, I don't have any regrets. )

Elizabeth
There was a time when we had a peace
When no missiles were fired
And trade was inviting
There was a time when Haven would not cease
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When trade was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that we'd e'er be allied
I dreamed the Peeps would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

Eloise
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame

They stood determined by our side
They filled the stars with endless wonder
The Manties were never denied
but it was war when StateSec came

Eloise/Elizabeth
And still I dream they'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.

I Dreamed a Dream (Reprise)

[Elizabeth]
I dreamed a dream in time gone by
I never dreamed it would come true
I never dreamed we would ally
That we would find our way to truth

[Eloise]
When the tigers came at night
With their voices soft as thunder
We repaired the dream they tore
The dream they tried to turn to shame

[Elizabeth and Eloise]
We stand determined side by side
And we will live the years together
We've made our peace in strength and pride
The dream we've won, since autumn came

We had a dream our lives would be
So different from the hell we're living
It's different now, we have the dream
We have revived the dream we dreamed...
