Anyone else like the show Continuum? I Think it is a fresh plot line.
Only problem I see is that they will cancel the show before writing the ending. So, once again, they will string it out till everyone quits watching it from boredom screwing everyone out of a true ending since they are racing after the almighty dollar instead of good TV. Kinda like how Warehouse 13 ended. Just, SNIP, blam boom, blim, blat, bafooey, done. |

I am not entirely sure that the show has an ending that it's going toward. The most recent episodes seem to go into directions that make Kiera's original plans null and void, and I am not entirely certain what the overarching goal is now. It seems that they're positioning themselves to dive deeper into the whole Freelancer side of the story, something I find a bit disappointing, since what hooked me into the show was the whole "the bad guys actually want a better future, while the heroine is fighting to create a dystopia" angle they got going in the beginning. In any case, what you're referring to in this last paragraph seems to me to be a conflation of two different issues. One, premature cancellation, leaving the writers to wrap up a story in far too short a time, depriving the fans of a satisfying conclusion to the story, and two, a show that just outstays its welcome over the course of too many seasons. Both have a detrimental effect on the writing, but for different reasons. In any case, Continuum is in my opinion good, solid SF action. Whether it can avoid the trapfalls of any show that involves time travel as its core concept (Star Trek Enterprise has shown what can go wrong with that) remains to be seen; I am cautiously optimistic on that front, but all it takes is one or two missteps to reverse that. |

After checking up on what it is, i can´t say it looks all that great at a glance, but i can very much agree with your sentiments in general. It is quite sad how many interesting series are trashed because of various more or less stupid attempts at "tailoring to the target audience". |

I had your initial thoughts as well. Then I was bored and watched it. Lets just say, it is a very unique show. Nothing else like it that I have ever seen. It is nothing close to your typical 45 min, cop solves a multi month long case during their coffee break crapola. Ug, I hate those travesties. PS. This is coming from a guy who watches a lot of Korean Drama(Yes, I have a wife and there is one remmote and actually most of the stuff, even the Romance stuff is made to be pretty interesting to both... "species" of the human race). They take 16-20 shows to do what 45 minutes to 2 shows do for in American shows generally. Japanese Drama seems to cut this number down to around 10. |

Good ones exist, but yeah, a liiittle better storytelling skills would often be nice. For "unique", nowadays i tend to look for anime, even if lots of it is like a dozen others, there´s always the occasional one that is unlike others. Like say: Kokoro Connect (a group of students draw attention from the WRONG direction, extreme weirdness ensues, won Anime-planet´s award for best drama for its year) Planetes (mostly very realistic sci-fi) Kurau Phantom Memory (slowpaced sci-fi) Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei (~"Farewell despair teacher" starts with the most positive girl ever running into the mr despair himself, a meeting that makes the world shudder) Stein´s gate (time travel and paranoia goes weird together(of course, it´s not really paranoia when they really ARE out to get you)) You will be hard pressed to find anything like the above series.
Mmm, plenty of decent stuff that can be found in the Korea/China/Japan area. Or at least it provides a very needed alternative style of stories and storytelling. If you like RomComs of the area, i can recommend Hotaru no Hikari. Hotaru´s lease contract is just awesome. |

As weird as these shows are it is refreshing that they are not just remakes of something else. Seems that is all Hollywood can do. I prefer the slow moving Lost Girl for my fix of Weird. The original Le femme Nikita TV show. Not the remake, although the movie was less ambiguous.
The fountain is a weird time travel movie. On of my favourite odd ball movies is Revolver. As for current TV, i 'll stick to Castle, which makes me wonder if RFC is anything like this Character? Beauty and the beast for my KK fix. And watching repeats of Stargate SG1, Magnum PI and Rockford Files. I have them all on DVD. ________________________________________

Personally usually not as i greatly prefer having media as local files ( not to mention that i can use mediaplayer settings by my own choosing, as well as not being afflicted by the site´s annoying tendency to try to enforce regional restrictions that isn´t even valid ), but crunchyroll, animetake, gogoanime, anime44 and probably more that i´ve forgotten if you want to be certain it´s legal. |

Boring, boring, boring....Hollywood or any other movie/tv location have yet to come up with an original idea, that was not part of some other story already written. MHO |

Same is true for most media, including literature. In some ways, how you tell a story is more important than the ideas you present in it. |
