Here's where the speculation comes in--what are the chances that the kernel of truth to the seijin legends was a previous instance of Nimue Alban being downloaded into her, or someone's, PICA?

We know that the seijins operated on the side of the light. So suppose after the Rakurai of the Alexandria colony and nuking of the command crew, that the remaining crew fought with each other for religious control of Safehold. Maybe someone put Nimue into her PICA, and had her, in a suitable disguise, participate in the war of the fallen. She might be fighting for the least bad alternative, which ended up putting the current system into power.

Nimue did not set the date of her 'revival'. Commodore Pei set the date for her PICA to wake up, AND also immobilized her PICA so that she had to listen to his recording first before taking any actions - however unlikely it might have been for someone of Nimue's calibre to do so.

So, that's what we KNOW from OAR. Now for a bit of speculation.

It seems clear to me that the decision of exactly HOW to utilize Nimue's PICA was left up to Commodore and Doctor Pei, because they would actually be on site, so to speak, if and when it became clear that the PICA would be needed.

Remember that when Nimue suggested the stratagem of using her PICA, the original group of conspirators did NOT yet KNOW that Langhorne and Bedard were going to subvert the original parameters of the Ark mission. They suspected that the two would do so, but they did not KNOW it.

Nimue's stratagem was intended as a backup failsafe right from the start, not a definite plan. The implementation of the stratagem would only have become imperative once it became clear that Langhorne and kie had in fact changed the mission parameters. And it would only have been AFTER their actions were confirmed that the surviving conspirators would have known exactly HOW to implement Nimue's stratagem.

Interesting point. And therefore, when Nimue traps Merlin inside a tree--well, his cave-- she can immobilize the Merlin Pica so he cannot escape...except by convincing Nahrman and his wife that he has regained his sanity, which may well take a thousand years.

I suspect Chihiro of paving over ground-zero and building the Temple right there to further intimidate any of Shan-wei's surviving supporters.

Well, that doesn't actually help. We already know that the current Temple was built after the Angelic Wars, so it is hardly surprising that they named the plaza after the Martyrs. But that doesn't tell us anything about whether there was a previous Temple.

I stumbled across some v relevant textev in AMF ][chapter XV1 - when Merlin is in Zion, in guise of Zevrons to help Madame Ahnzhelyk extract the families of some of the Circle]
Before the destruction of the Alexandria Enclave... there'd been no temple

There is other interesting thoughts from Merlin about the foundation of the temple in the same passage.

So, there you have it. ;)

Okay, that settles it. I was definitely mistaken when I originally said there was an earlier temple. What I was apparently thinking of was Langhorne's headquarters on Safehold, which must have been in the general area of the future city of Zion, from the description. But it was not a temple, and may not even have been open to the public.

I doubt it.

Sailing an ice boat is not quite the same as sailing on water, and hostile territory isn't really a good place to learn the difference. Charis doesn't have anyplace similar to Lake Pei to practice or perfect a design for an armed ice ship.

It would be a good idea if they can find the boats and ice sailors to carry it out.

Hmm, armored iceboat why does Alaxander Nevsky's battle on ice [see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uez8dJ-MGw,] come to mind where the German armored knights broke through the ice saving the Russian peasant army?
