No. Nonono. Theisman needs to be a magnet. He needs to be the kind of man who takes a breath to speak and instantly the whole room stops to listen. He needs presence, power, dignity, and humanity in one package, all wrapped up in a plain, unassuming face.

In short, he needs to be a young Edward James Olmos.

(Personally, my front-runner is Chris Pine, though I think Pine might be a bit too pretty. Jeremy Renner might be able to pull it off. Idris Elba definitely would, but he's also stupendously gorgeous so no. Theisman... Theisman is a problem. And not just for my ovaries. )

Jeremy Renner > Theisman = Yes! (though Fat Chance hiring him, unless he's a fan.)

Chris Pine = N-n-not so much. (That translates as "Please don't".)

I like Wheaton - but not suitable for Theisman. I see him as a better fit for (rnh - please don't hit me) Warner Caslet, or better, Sam Webster. Hmm - He might do for Judah Yanakov, or the Hertzog.

I would love to see Renner as Theisman. I've heard great things about him in the Marvel-verse, at any rate, and I think he could pull it off. But you're right -- waaaaayyyy too expensive. (But if he's too expensive, so is Pine.)

I wouldn't count Chris Pine out yet. Unlike his dearly beloved predecessor, Piney isn't good at one character type and crap at all the rest - I really think he could do it. He's got the touch. (But he's too never-to-be-sufficiently-damned pretty, and probably just a bit too flashy to carry Theisman off the way Renner could.)

I wouldn't be surprised if Theisman was another unknown, though, honestly. I'd expect the big guns to be brought in for Courvosier, Elizabeth, Bernard Yanakov, and possibly Mercedes Brigham and/or Protector Benjamin, and have everyone else, including Our Series Anchors, played by virtual unknowns. (Hey, it worked for Babylon 5! :D )

There is charisma, and then there is charisma.
Is Caparelli any less charismatic than Hamish? Heck yes. But does he have charisma in spades? see previous answer.
Thom Theisman is in the same boat. The fact that he is not obvious at being charismatic is what allowed him to depose St.Juste.
My point stands. Having someone who commands stage when he shows up is absolutely and utterly wrong for Thom.

Far as I am concerned Wheaton is the perfect actor for the role. And I will champion that choice until the actual shooting for the movie starts. And if he is not playing it, I will probably bemoan the fact that he isn't.

roseandheather, I must disagree on Mercedes Brigham: Older, dark weathered looks, 1st gen. prolong recipient …

Call me unconventional, but I would cast someone dark-complexioned and old-and-weathered enough to be a contrast to the (supposedly) predominantly 2nd & 3rd gen. cast members.

yannosh, I have to disagree with Will Wheaton to play Tom Theisman because:

1) what roseandheather says, &

2) Will Wheaton: Dye his hair gray, give him a shave and cast him as Raoul Courvosier. He can pull off the puckish look/feel the character is described as having in:

tHotQ chapter 5: “a small, round-faced man in civilian clothing stepped forward. Logic suggested he had to be the delegation head, and that meant he was Admiral Raoul Courvosier. At least he looked like an adult—there was even gray in his hair—but he was far less impressive than Yanakov had anticipated. He’d read every article and lecture of Courvosier’s he could find, and this smiling man looked more like an elf than the brilliant, sharp-eyed strategist the admiral had anticipated, but-“

& tHotQ chapter 18: “with Puck’s face and a special smile for her.”

Now that he can totally pull off!
(too bad about the plot-bump, but them's the breaks one takes when "everyone can die" :P ).

roseandheather wrote:I also want to bring Jolene Blalock into the Honorverse so badly I can taste it. She was amazing as T'Pol. Enterprise's problems were legion, but the quality and capability of its actors was not among those problems. Perhaps she'd like to take a gander at Mercedes Brigham?

Tom Theisman - This is NOT a "gleeful" man.

"Competently morose" or "Thoughtfully regretful, but doin' the job" fits him better. Recall the treecat name.

Also, in physical aspect - "fireplug".

Keep this in mind when choosing candidates.

There is a guy on General Hospital, with credits for SG:U and BSG, Dominic Zamprogna, who would be perfect.

I think Jeremy Irons would make a good Theisman

Why does everyone jump to conclusions?
Yes, Wheaton is best known for comedy and voice acting, but he can and did do serious. Extremly well.

And I reiterate. Comanding presence, Magnetic aura, etc...
No, just no...

Go to Turville for that.

And Irons? To old, Too much of a large ham.

Now here's a twist for you.

I think I could buy Wil as Alistair, and I think he could do it well.

With the added advantages that Alistair is going to be around for a long while, and go out in a blaze of glory. Wil would like that. Both of that. <grin>

Hmm, hadn't though of that one ...

y'know, actually I like it a lot.

And as a 'top handful of cast' role, the budget might make this a realistic choice for once. This could be just about perfect.

... 'more I think on it, the more I like it.

I vote Wil Wheaton for Alistair McKeon.

There, now it's official! No backsies. :P

I do think I would like Wil as McKeon. He probably has the chops to pull it off.

Plus, there is the fact that he is an unapologetic nerd. If he gets into the books he might be willing to do the movies for less than somebody with his name recognition would normally ask for. And he is a huge name in the nerd community, and relatively well known outside of it. He even has Wheaton's Law named after him, even if it just says "Don't be a dick."

Evergreen, that is three votes for Mr. Wheaton as Alistair McKeon.

There is only one character upon whose casting I am absolutely, one thousand percent dead-goddamn-set.

Augustus Khumalo. Norm Lewis.

That is all.
