Hmm French battleship twin stack, four twin turrets? Closet fit is the two stack five twin turret Bretagne class
During the war Provence lost a turret as a shore battery, remove the amidships turret and you have the battleship described in the epilog. Poker CPO Poker Mind and, Mangy Fur the Smart Alick Spacecat.

Bump, What do you expect to see in the next book?
For me in the West a second corps of discovery to recruit the native ‘worthy prey’ species to bulk up the allied army. Other than the surviving Me-Anakka and human survivors of the third British East India Company ship they will be Grik like beings. Hmm, could the intelligent worthy prey like our Plains Indians have developed a sign language to communicate between their tribes? We have a hint in that Will was surprised that Chak could speak English, but knew the Madagascar Me-Anakka did not like to fight indicating he had meet and communicated with them. It is likely trade occurs between the tribes. Hmm, Will as Larry & Chak’s Sacagawea? I foresee the Grik launching an armada containing their Grand Swarm to retake Madagascar, and like the Spanish Armada being repulsed by a smaller more capable navy, but with the help of the air force I think we will see Jumbo’s PB5-Bs making their entree in this battle. The West Rebeka and Saan-Kakja bring two more carriers and supporting DDs with Empire troops including the Dom freedom fighters. Possibly another carrier, DDs, and one of the Walker clones may come from Baalkpan via a great circle direct to the Enchanted Isles. Perhaps bringing some P-40s as dragon repellant. I foresee the Dom fleet having a very bad day. Humm I wonder if Don Hernan de Divino Vika will leave poor General Galan Norino to surrender Don Hernan’s army and thus holding the bag for the army’s defeat, while he slinks away. It seems his style. I think Kurokawa will hunker down and build a New Japan allowing the Allies and the Grik to hurt each other. One real curve ball might be Fukui defecting perhaps freeing Gerrett and Smith to come with him. Any one else care to speculate, knowing our beloved author is bound to surprise us. Still waiting for my book dealer here in Denmark to get the newest episode in stock, so I’ll be back when I’ve read it.
Btw., how is Anderson going to turn a Coke machine into a MacGuffin? |

It's mentioned in Deadly Shores thus: Earl worries it's lid will get dented if he establishes an aid station near the galley, Matt orders it over the side it's in the way, and Earl takes it in the Galley when fighting on Deck of Walker endangers it. Both Earl and the Coke machine survive. So I'd say it was a true Alfred Hitchcock MacGuffin.

I’d say not yet. Right now it’s more a “comic relief” then a true “MacGuffin”. It’s like watching a third rate film, where a camera focuses on someone dropping a set of keys. So you know at some time those keys will play a part. Same with that Damm Coke machine! |

The Coke machines is a character that has been wounded, fought over, and we wonder if it will go over the side, be damaged by the Grik. Thus the added suspense what will happen to the Coke Machine. Two major characters buy the farm not just one this time.
