http://nationalreport.net/solar-panels- ... perts-say/ ;)

Scientists at the Wyoming Institute of Technology, a privately-owned think tank located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, discovered that energy radiated from the sun isn’t merely captured in solar panels, but that energy is directly physically drawn from the sun by those panels, in a process they refer to as “forced photovoltaic drainage.”

“Put into laymen’s terms, the solar panels capture the sun’s energy, but pull on the sun over time, forcing more energy to be released than the sun is actually producing,” WIT claims in a scientific white paper published on Wednesday. “Imagine a waterfall, dumping water. But you aren’t catching the water in buckets, but rather sucking it in with a vacuum cleaner. Eventually, you’re going to suck in so much water that you drain the river above that waterfall completely.”

<insert popcorn smilie here>

I can't decide which is funnier - the "article" or the comments. Then again, the comments are almost enough to make me cry.

...the science used is just so bad that it has to be a parody.
The analogy is flawed, the assumptions are wrong...
This has to be one of the best cases of insane troll logic in the scientific world that I have ever come across.
Wow.
Just...
wow.
Edit -
Just checked out the rest of the site and the whole thing is a parody similar to The Onion.
I find myself wondering how many people actually believe the pseudoscience involved.

Ahhh... Michael, I'm going to apologize in advance in case I offend you, but...

What amused me the most about the article wasn't the article itself, or even the thought of those who might actually believe what it said. No, it was the people who immediately trashed the article for the bad science. etc. as if it was a *real* article. Unforunately, it looks like you got caught up in that as well.

As for your edit... it wouldn't surprise me if we see something going on about this sometime in the near future, where it's being passed off as true. After all, there are a lot of people who think/thought that DHMO (Dihydrogen Monoxide) ought to be banned: http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html

The Wit science.org has a company selling solar panels as an ad on their site.

This reminds me of the best explanation of how flashlight's batteries work.

They suck in darkness until all the batteries get so full of darkness they stop working. This is why when you cut a battery open all the darkness leaks out. Having done this I can confirm the batteries are full of inky darkness.

Bell labs explains so very well.

Satire... probably one of the highest forms of humor, and if done well, is almost indistinguishable from truth.

I love it!

Edit: And like many Onion articles, this one is going to cause a stir from people who believe it's true.

Because they're too stupid to spend a couple minutes doing a little research, or even checking out the rest of the site, like Michael did.

I didn't bother doing any research, and I'd never heard of the site until I saw the link to the article on FB. Once I started reading, I caught on right away that it was satire, but what surprised me the most (as I mentioned to Michael above) was that many otherwise intelligent people were trashing the article (in the comments section) for being bad science.

Well, of *course* it's bad science. That was the entire point!

I'm going to have to add this site to my bookmarks. For those who haven't read it the Onion is fun too.

This must be a conspiracy between Nebraska and Wyoming.
