In Corisande, however, they would say Merlin must have ticked off Nimue Chwaeriau something fierce. Seijin Nimue is demonstrably faster than seijin Merlin, no? Siddermarkians might suggest seijin Ahbraim managed the feat. In Zion especially within the Iquisition one might assume the demon Dialydd Mab just missed rising up the ranks of hell by eliminating his competition. Very interesting! And Merlin could truthfully say, "Nimue put that scar on my cheek." ~Tonto |

That throws a whole new light on things. Perhaps Lieutenant Charlz Sheltyn won't feel so badly about losing once he learns that he went toe-to-toe for three minutes with the woman who scarred Merlin Athrawes in a sword fight.

I'd like to think that most Safeholdians are smart enough to realize that just because Merlin is a fearsome, undefeatable Seijin now--he hasn't always been.
And that's the truth, too! |

Scars may show a screwup, but survival shows you learned......

Unless one is a Prussian aristocrat, then facial scars are simply a mark of silly vanity. |

And lived to learn more than a few lessons. Screaming like a little girl in public and in front of his Royal Princess might be a small price to pay for that distinction, eh? ....Then again, maybe not. Lt. Sheltyn strikes me as an idiot. |

You've heard only one side of the story. I'm sure that if you were fortunate enough to encounter Lieutenant Sheltyn in a pub and bought him a pint or three that you would learn facts of the event that bear scarce resemblance to the fiction you've heard up to now. The fine Lieutenant never intended to hospitalise the woman, so her attack came completely without warning. His left shoulder was dislocated in that initial attack, and I challenge anyone to fight anyone with a dislocated shoulder! ....Then again, maybe not. Lt. Sheltyn strikes me as an idiot. No. The Lieutenant was merely encountering a new culture while completely under the throes of the previous culture. ~Tonto |

My dear Master/Mistress Silerheels,
I'll grant the diminutive seijin caught our brave and misunderstood lieutenant by surprise. His story certainly might carry a distinctly different flavor than what has been bruited about. I still believe he is an idiot. He does come from a different culture. Yet only a severe bigot or an idiot assumes a woman credited as being a seijin serving the House of Ahrmahk isn't actually a seijin. The same house and sejin network that took Corisande to the woodshed without so much as breaking a sweat.

Pboer,
Thank god someone finally got the joke. I always picture the scar just like the ones on Inigo (Manny Patakin) from Princess Bride. I've anxiously waited for Merlin to ask someone if they had six fingers on their left hand when he was in the 'taunting' part of the pre-battle - I was disappointed it didn't pop up in the rescue of Daivyn and Iris.
