Check out Jacqueline Toboni, the new Grimm on Grimm. Young, talented and athletic, just starting her career. I have no fixed idea who she could portray, but she is possibly what type of actor Evergreen should be looking at.

How about Howard Clinkscales? His age works for him and the role grows in later books to fit Stewart's stature as an actor. Cheers, G |

I like the cut of your jib! She's got chops, both physically and as an actor. Of course, I love Grimm, so I'm far from objective, I suspect. |

It's been DECADES since I've ever read a Star Trek book (and I don't think I've ever read a Star Wars one). I don't think that I ever did read more than a handful, but I do have to mention one memorable book, or at least section of a book: I suggest you relent a little bit, and (if the opportunity presents itself) check out the 1989 Novel "The Kobayashi Maru" by Julia Ecklar * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kobay ... 9_novel%29 I particularly like the story re Scotty; it's still memorable even these many years later. . =====

Also, consider Spock's World, by Diane Duane. It is where I borrowed my username. Cthia is the Vulcan word loosely translated to mean 'logic.' I enjoyed the read immensely. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Honestly, that's a bit snobbish of you. Some of them are dreck, sure - I've never read any Star Wars books though, so I can't speak for them - but others are pure gems. Anything by Diane Duane (she of Young Wizards fame) is solid gold, and the Star Trek: Destiny series is incredibly compelling, not to mention a masterwork of weaving together Trek mythology. And Peter David's Star Trek: New Frontier is apparently quite good as well. It's not all schlock written by hack jobs, and to say it is does the many extremely talented writers who have written it a tremendous disservice. After all, David Drake, SM Stirling, Eric Flint, Jane Lindskold, and Timothy Zahn have all written Honorverse stories - does that make them dreck, too? Or does the fact that their stories are written for a literary universe instead of a television one make them automatically "superior"? Because if so, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. ~*~

You are not helping yourself any by naming the first two. Drek is what those guys wrote for Honorverse short stories and honestly everything else they have ever written. Though Stirling does have a couple gems out of all he has written. (Yes, I was REALLY bored, and read his stuff) Personally, I have always thought that J. Lindskold never wrote anything compelling, though her plot lines in some of her other novels were quite nice initially and then fell flat. Couple plot lines were good, but writing style? Not me. Zahn is hit and miss. Flint is Ok to good. So, 1.5/5 is not a good ratio. Now, if Weber could get Bujold to write more... Seems she is in effective retirement. A pity. _________

*sigh* My point was that they're recognized big names in SF with established careers, and had nothing to do with the quality or potential lack thereof of the stories they wrote. The only short stories I read are the ones that directly impact the ongoing plot ("Fanatic", "From the Highlands", "The Service of the Sword") or provide interesting backstory ("Beauty and the Beast"), so I'm not really in a place to make a judgment call on that, but a pile of nothing but negative complaining isn't going to make me inclined to take your opinion all that seriously. ~*~

You made my point for me. You haven't even bothered to read anything other than David Weber and a bit of Eric Flint short stories in the Honorverse. So far they have been the only ones even worth reading. But since you have not even done the courtesy of reading the other stories by the other authors of whom you wrote and whom I criticized in the Honorverse, what does that make you?
