Ooh, isn't this a challenge?
I am going to point out that there have been actors who know martial arts that have been big hits, although admittedly more in the East than the West. However, I suspect most people here know the names of Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan and Steven Segal for openers. So, yes, we do want actors and actresses with appropriate levels of MA experience. |

Good enough reason for me. So, I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine. I've a dangerous soft spot for redheads and April Bowlby, who plays the redheaded Kandi on Two and a Half Men would be fantastic to play Frances Tyler, Javier Giscard's redheaded staff astrogator if it ever comes to screen. Is she too young and pretty to play the redheaded Iris Babcock? Don't you dare tell Horace I said she isn't exactly a 10! ![]() Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

![]() ![]() (pauses to calm down, takes many deep breaths. Cthia, I have also read Battlefield Earth, back when I was 14 and it almost put me off sci-fi for life. Only Terry Pratchett, Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey and Lois McMaster Bujold tempted me back. While I will admit that some of the concepts in the story were indeed interesting, I found the plotline and execution to be... suboptimal at best. At the time, I believed that it was no wonder the author created a new religion as his career as a sci-fi writer would probably have not been very profitable. I never saw the film (thank goodness) so I can't comment on that. Subject change, back to original topic. Regarding casting, I think one of the more important factors is that whoever gets cast can actually speak rather than mumble. The BBC has recently broadcast a series called Jamaica Inn which generated over 2,000 complaints that between the actors inability to enunciate and the over-loud background noise, viewers needed subtitles to tell them what the heck was happening. So. An actor/actress with good vocal capabilities. Perhaps searching the theatres could be a good move? Especially for those who can do Shakespeare... ~~~~~~
I can't write anywhere near as well as Weber But I try nonetheless, And even do my own artwork. (Now on Twitter)and mentioned by RFC! ACNH Dreams at DA-6594-0940-7995 |

IIRC, someone else here likes her a lot. But his favorite scene was in The Wicked Lady. |

Michael. I am laughing my head off! And believe you me, right now I could use any humor I can get. It doesn't surprise me that you don't like B.Earth. Not many of my friends do either. Back in 1998, I think, I attended a book discussion for it. All excited I was. Got there and half the people there were there to discuss the Mars Trilogy. Seems some of the fliers were crossed. People threatened to walk out on any discussion of B.Earth. Only myself and two or three other people actually wanted to discuss B.Earth after given a chance to choose. (out of 25-30 ppl. An unusually good turnout) I ended up dating the one girl who liked it along with me. Didn't last long, B.Earth is all we had in common! ![]() I also don't understand why many people didn't like OBS on first read??? Or at all. Damn I love that book. If I could only choose one, I'd choose OBS, no brainer. I'm with you, at the end of the day, I think I'll accept almost anyone cast for the movie. If well written and produced the movie will catapult any cast into super stardom. Much like Tom Cruise and Top Gun. Never thought he could act. He's just had powerful roles. IMHO. Just my opinion. Ok? Ok? Ok. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. And excellent co-stars. Any Tom Cruise movie I've ever watched was because of the other people in it. And most of those he ruined (for me) in one way or another. _

And excellent co-stars! Thanks!! The co-stars were the movie. Take Nicole Kidman in Far and Away. What acting skills has Nicole!! I thought it was actually happening. Nicole has that classic acting ability, far away from most actors. What the hell was Cruise doing in that movie...other than...cruising along? If she were physically right for it, she could play one helluvan Honor. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. Cthia, your comments regarding acting skill just made me realize who I want for Eloise Pritchart! The role requires not just startling beauty, but the ability to convey the undeniable presence of a truly gifted leader. The actress I've seen do this in several roles and do it so well that I've been just gobsmacked by the performance is Cate Blanchett.
As Elizabeth I, as Galadriel, etc., Cate not only conveys that presence, she sometimes does it with no more than a subtle change of expression, a brief glance. Watching her is an acting masterclass. Not that she'd be remotely within the budget, but I can dream. |
