When the 3 destroyers were destroyed in the Talbot sector at New Tuscany, how much technology survived on the destroyed destroyers.
Did they take some of Mark 16 missles? Did any of the ghost rider platforms survive? Did any of the ship's impellar rooms survive? Did any of the main computers survive? |

Bit of a moot point - none of Byng's ships made it back to friendly territory apart from the DB. We know some of the escort had moved toward the location of Chatterjee's ships, but if they had recovered anything (and they probably did) they won't have finished any analysis by the time Henke showed up. There is the possibility that someone may have stashed something and carried it down to the surface when the Sollies evacuated their ships. They would then be able to do further evaluation, but they have to get past any security protocals and then somehow get what they've gleaned back to the League. All of this presupposes that the Solly BC crews are still on New Tuscany. We have no textev either way. Mike. ---------------------

Given that Byng's ships hadn't left orbit by the time Henke showed up, I'd say that even if some of that hardware had survived, the probability that it has been shipped off is relatively low. Also note that these were unshielded destroyers targeted by Battlecruiser-grade energy weapons, the probability that anything recoverable was left over should be rather small (and if anything, the recovery would have been done by the planetary government, which at the time was too busy shitting its pants to contemplate selling anything to the SL). |

Don't forget this was Byng as well. He probably wouldn't have wanted his people wasting time analyzing inferior neobarb toys.

Excellent question and thank you. I never would have thought about it. Depends upon your point of view. I think the Grand Alliance is in deep do do. Yeah, the story line does not address it and perhaps purposely.
Yep...the Sollies got just about everything, including the possibility of human survivors. Even though the cans were wiped out by big guns, there are always small and perhaps big chunks of wreckage..and parts. I think it is quite possible that we may find out in future novels that the Sollies in fact did get a whole lot of secret and advanced bits and pieces of the blasted brand new destroyers. Lots of junk, but also lots and lots of good stuff. They had the time. They also had to do search and rescue on the blasted space station so all the infrastructure was already in place and running. Yep.... I think the Sollies got nearly all of it .... or enough to figure it all out. HB of CJ (old coot) I love this forum and thank you. |

Keeping Byng's mindset in mind, I doubt there was any effort to collect anything because "what could they have worth the effort of collecting? |

Definitely no survivors. No mention whatsoever and in the context of what RFC has written subsequently there isn't any possibility of any appearing later. As for recovering wreckage, Byng wasn't the only flag officer around. He wouldn't be interested in intel, he is Battle Fleet after all, but his second, Sigbee, being Frontier Fleet, would. It's not unreasonable to assume that recovering anything of interest for intelligence purposes would be SOP for FF. Byng may not have expressly ordered it, but Sigbee may have signaled the tin can commanders "on the quiet" to recover items as-per-SOP. Either directly, or more likely via the Flotilla CO. Anyway, as I wrote earlier, it's a bit moot. Mike. ---------------------

It could have been Sollie Intelligence or Mesa that took technology. Would I have told Byng....absolutely not! A ship could have left before the Manties arrived at the system.
