A couple of posters have suggested the death of Honor Harrington. After all that woman has been through let her watch her kids grow up please. Give her a chance to teach, to run around naked for decades with her husband and wife, a chance to watch some of her students take the helm of starships making her proud like she did Courvosier, bringing it all full circle, making Courvosier a grandfather of sorts. Let it happen.

And for goodness sake RFC, don't you dare consider the opinions of two misguided posters obviously under the influence of that ferociously atrocious savagely strong Stilthy smoke!

That's what it is RFC, honest. You know that drug dealers can smuggle in a ton of fresh wet shit right under the noses of DEA agents in the middle of a Guiness Book of World Record-blistering July heat!

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Yes and yes and please yes. :D

I don't hate people who want to kill Honor off but... I hate that idea and do not understand the need to deny her a nice HEA.

I'd love for RFC to think up a way to first regenerate Nimitz' televoice, then come up with a way for treecats and humans to communicate without all this awkward fuss, all treecats with all humans, not just specially trained treecats with specially trained humans. Then hence for treecats to master human technology and take it off in their own directions. Reality would be they would not be accepted by most people as fully sentient and the 'equal' of humans without both practical widespread communication and tech mastery. I want to see Nimitz and Samantha zipping around in their own flashy red air car. :D

Dame Estelle is raised to Duchess Estelle. I've wanted this one for ages. Roseandheather is not the only Dame Estelle fan here. :D

Yes and yes and oh please yes to Allen Higgins getting to win big time, triumphant, covered in glory, absolutely the winner of a huge and crucial engagement. Genevieve Chin also gets a win somewhere. :D

Honor and Hamish lead the attack on the MA -not Mesa, the MA itself- and win in spectacularly satisfying ways and come home safe and sound darn it. I really want this. Really really. :D  :D

Emily gets cured. A genefix to fix her non regen. It also fixes Honor...unless Honor decides to keep herself as is because she has come to like her cyborg abilities. eh.. And every other non regen person gets fixed. Why can't we have some more HEA in here? There has been plenty of misery dumped on characters. Lovely scene between Honor and a healthy Emily anyone? :D

I confess that I really did not pay much attention to the romance between Eloise and Javier in the early books. To be blunt I thought that Pavel Young's attempt to rape Honor in the shower followed by her subsequent evolution to being a born again virgin was so clumsy and improbable that I tended to ignore all subsequent, Weber romances. Killing off Paul Tankersley so melodramatically confirmed my opinion that Weber should stick to Sci Fi not Romance Novels. The prospect of a romance between Mateo and Abby Hearnes appeals to me because the events on Tiberean make it so plausible.

That poster would be me, and you're very welcome! (Also I am so right there with you.)

That.... would be incredibly satisfying.

csilkenat wrote:3. Give Honor one last giant fleet battle, preferably above Mesa and kill her off. In a suitably heroic fashion of course. (yes, I know that this is going to get me hated but I can just not see Honor going quietly off into retirement)

I'm kind of actually with you on this one. I mean, I don't want Honor to die - at least not any time soon! - but you're right, I can't see her going quietly into retirement, either. She needs a blaze of glory. After all, she's basically the modern Edward Saganami or Ellen D'Orville, and D'Orville had a very long (for pre-prolong) and productive life before she went out in her blaze of glory...

csilkenat wrote:4. The beginnings of truly bringing the Talbott quadrant into the Manticoran Empire.

Accompanied by Dame Estelle kicking diplomatic arse all over the Empire! Good God yes please!!!

csilkenat wrote:5. A more lasting edifice than the current alliance formed to provide a place for all factions to negotiate. Not to end war but to provide a neutral ground simply to talk.

I think this is a bloody fantastic idea. Not that I have my doubts about the endurance of the Grand Alliance, but a neutral planet/system/space station that belongs to none of the participating nations when issues (because there will be issues in the future, even between star nations that are on the best of terms) arise and need to be settled.

csilkenat wrote:edit. Apparently it is already fannon that the two of them are going to be lovers no matter what RFC does with the characters.

Er... that may also be my fault.

In all seriousness, though, I think it's a wonderful idea, and not for the reasons everyone's going to pin on me. (I doubt RFC is going to come poking around this particular thread, but if he does, here's my thinking.)

For one thing, there's been a bit of lamenting about the lack of prominent, openly gay characters, and while I'm totally on board with his decision not to do it simply as a case of tokenism (and as someone who is most definitely not straight, I think I have a bit more insight into the matter than the usual), Shannon and Sonja would be the perfect opportunity to give us a lesbian couple center stage.

They're both established characters, they have a tremendous amount in common, they're going to be working together for an extended period of time in very close and intense circumstances, and neither of them are on record as to sexual orientation. Their relationship would be a natural outgrowth of the story, not awkwardly jammed in to fill a "social correctness quota" - which I have seen done, and which is never any less painful to witness. And one of the main themes of the Honorverse is what people can accomplish for the sake of love. Take Eloise and Javier, for instance - if they hadn't felt about each other the way they did, the future of the Republic would have been very different. They accomplished something extraordinary in the name of love - who's to say Shannon and Sonja couldn't do the same?

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that, aside from my other pet pairing, they make more sense with each other than any other prospective relationship in the Honorverse, and believe me, I have at least a dozen I could write essays on about why they're suited for each other. So yes - I stand behind the idea of Shannon and Sonja together romantically, because they do make sense and because I think something even more wonderful than just a loving relationship could come out of it.

Hi nameless,

Agreed RFC should stick to his strengths :) But I do like your Mateo and Abigail notion. A lot. :D

Meanwhile I would like to see them do all of this on Nouveau Paris because reasons.

The sound you just heard was my entire apartment building toppling to the ground as I ricocheted around like a bullet screaming "YES!" at the top of my lungs.

I need this like I need pretty much nothing else. All the universe has ever done to Allen Higgins is spit in his face and then laugh about it. My empire for a massive, critical victory he wins and survives and tells his great-grandchildren about.

I enjoy reading passages of the characters' personal life. I'd love to see Honor, Hamish and Emily interact with their children as parents. I don't recall anything of the sort in a Rising Thunder.

And as someone else mentioned; we need to see Raoul around Treecats!
