I suspect that Langhorne acted before she had completely moved the library.

Remember that Jeremiah Knowles' letter mentioned that Shan-wei had planned to send others to join him in Tellesberg but Langhorne destroyed the Alexandria enclave before she did.

Please also remember the secret library associated with the Brethren of Saint Zherneau.

It is very possible that Shan-wei planned to send additional books to Tellesberg but died before she had the chance to send them.

But if someone not impressed with all of that were to go look, what would he find? I know what the description of the kenetic strike did to the surface and probably several dozen feet below the surface. But could something have survived were it buried deeply enough, could it be that portions of that library could be recoverable?

Remember that Armageddon Reef wasn't a reef before the Rakurai. It was a peninsula. The kinetic strike smashed half a continent into small islands.

Can you come up with text ev for that? Just curious. It would seem that I missed a trick and would like to read it.

Yes! I have had the same thought, infact;
I would not be surprised to find out that Shan-wei and her team had another entire library hidden away before they confronted Langhorne. I wonder if Weeping Sister Island near the site of the Alexandria Colony in another of her unreported facts like Silverload Island.

I thought only the Rakurai Bay area was actually chewed up by the OBS (three waves of impactors, five on Alexandria island itself) - not the entire continent of Armageddon Reef.

Merlin says that each cell of the OBS could cover "half a continent at need" but I don't think that phrase is applied to what was actually done to Alexandria.

EDIT: if it had actually shattered a continent that would probably have put the planet into uninhabitable impact-winter levels. Even the Chicxulub dinosaur killer crater is only ~150 miles across.

Yeah, one would wonder if a strike big enough to ruin a continet would also shatter the planet itself.

This depends on how it is done. A single impact with continental consequences would have global implications, a hundred thousand or million impacts with a ten ton yield would be strictly locally devastating but be unnoticed a hundred miles away (WWI & WWII's conventional weapons got into this range, and were very unhealthy to be under but the next state over would be missed entirely).

I'll look at the text later. I don't have the ebook, so I can't check it here at work.

You don't need a very big impactors to make a big craters IIRC the meteor that made Meteor Crater AZ was 50yds across and made a crater 500ft deep and half a mile across. How big do you think the craters would be if you hit with multiple impactors the size of basket balls and beach balls or small cars. Also consider a meteor version of the opening phases of Operation Cobra.

Merlin's cave has a substantial library. One might propose that she did hide things away.

Good point and Merlin commented that he might move some of them to the Brethren of Saint Zherneau's library.
