Yes, but IIRC, all of those strikes were done at the request of the local government. Not only does that by definition not fall under the edict, the local government held the orbitals, and the rebels did not surrender, allowing a strike under the edict. Or did I miss some?


You're allowed to destroy enemy forces using KE strikes even if it entails civilian casualties. It doesn't mean you can go eradicating cities as object lessons.

True. But they're probably not violating the Edict itself. Violating some part of their equivalent to the UCMJ, yes. The Edict, no.

Exactly. The fact of the matter was that it was done at the request of the legal planetary authority, and therefore was not an edict violation. Genocide? Probably. Crime against humanity? With out a doubt. Edict violation? No.

Unfortunately, the Mandarins and SLN Hierarchy (especially Battle Fleet) are still at the stage of shooting any "defeatists" who advocate any new technology. :roll:

There are one or two brain-cells in the SLN, and a few proto-brain-cells among the Mandarins, but the majority opinion in the SL is still CYA.

The ISLN won't have multiple drive missiles any time soon. King Roger started Sonya Hemphill on that project back in the 1850's, and it took over 40 years to get the first prototypes deployed. It took the Sollies over 20 years just to copy the laser warhead! Also invented by Sonya Hemphill, by the way. Granted, they're a bit more...motivated today, but they can't just whip up a whole new technology because they really, really want it. The Cataphract is NOT a multi-drive missile; it's kluge with one missile carrying another one as a PAYLOAD. Not remotely in the same class as even a Mark 16.

No, the SLN tested a laserhead warhead long before the RMN, it just didn't work.

And duplicating tech is much easier then creating it. Note how long it took the RH to do it, and the RH has far, far less R&D or industrial capability then the SL does.

A Solly defense contractor tried and failed to develop a laser warhead around 1850. The ISLN ignored it.

Haven had 3 big advantages the Sollies don't have:

1. Detailed tactical records of the early missiles in action
2. Erewhon handed them everything as of 1903
3. Shannon Foraker

In addition, they were already trying to catch up with Manticore's advanced tech at Bolthole, and had just got all the stupid beat out of 'em. There's still acres and acres of stupid in the ISLN.

No, it was 1833 and quite the contrary. It was a big fiasco and shut down those kind of development programs.

Consult all of the various SDFs about new weapons technologies that they might have fielded or
have underdevelopment.


This is ASSUMING that the local SDF's would be willing to reveal their local improvements and capabilities.
SLN FF and BF "may" consider a capable SDF to be a worrisome topic and a potential threat.

Maya Sector is keeping all their mods a secret (nothing to see here)

You won't get any info if you don't ask. And carrying a big box of cash to give out to interesting projects might help, as well as the offer to do large scale license.
