I'd like to know if Admiral Hemphill is still trying to make the Grav Lance idea work. I know author fiat says it never will, but the admiral does not strike me as the type to ever completely give up on an idea.

The short answer is probably no. That's because there's no problem with the weapon itself - if you look at the ship classes in House of Steel, you'll see that the Homer class battlecruiser, the Gladiator DN and the Andural SD all have grav lances. The problem is that military tactics have moved to missile combat from very long range, not practically sidewall to sidewall energy battles. No amount of technical fiddling will make a weapon useful if there's no occasion to use it. |

This. Sonja Hemphill may be as terrier as ever a terrier was, but even a terrier knows to let go when there are more tasty morsels in the offing. Like, oh, Apollo and Lorelei and Ghost Rider. ~*~

And just imagine what fun she, Shannon, and Simões will cook up in the test kitchens at Bolthole. I've had the pleasure of working with certain people in what I call the "nuclear reaction" mode: One of us comes up with an idea that causes another to say "hey, you could tweak that this way and..." which sets off the first person or someone else, and pretty soon the chain reaction goes critical and BOOM! you have a full platter of awesome topped with awesome sauce and a side order of extra awesome. I'm visualizing S³ being that way once they all get together. So far, Sonja and Shannon have just had to reverse-engineer each others' work and try to one-up each other long distance, and neither of them has been exposed to the stuff Simões has been working with. If Roger's secret research project was "Gram", Bolthole is going to be "Metric Ton" (of whoopass). I know that some people don't enjoy the bunch-of-people-sitting-around-a-conference-table stuff, but I hope that doesn't deter DW from giving us a taste of the "tech wizards around a holo-whiteboard" I've been jonesing for since the end of MoH. I want the treecats assigned to their security to gang up with the stewards and insist that they take breaks to eat and sleep because when you're in the zone you don't think about stuff like that. Then the admirals call it "mutiny", until their stewards whip out standing orders from Theisman and Caparelli covering precisely such circumstances, while the treecats laugh. |

You, sir, owe me a mop for the drool and another for the tears of joy. There is only one thing I want to see more than I want to see Augustus and Estelle hook up, and that is Sonja Hemphill and Shannon Foraker in the same room, on the same side, and talking to each other. (Though I would also like to see them hook up... *dreamy eyes* ...but I'll take just talking for now. ) But you are not kidding when you say they need treecat managers. I would not be surprised to see them talking with each other for a week straight, forgetting such unimportant things as sleep, food, and breathing. ~*~

I'd like to know what Honor, Sonja, Abigail, and Shannon's sleepwear is like. Can we say Sweet Teddy!
Perhaps the movie will...humor us. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

As far as Estelle is concerned, I can vouch for the fact that it's not just the sleepwear that's edible... ...did I say that out loud?? ~*~
