I think what we're looking at here is the model rendered over a skybox of a city. There is a background there, but given the camera movement, it is impossible to tell whether it is an actual city (you know, with cars moving around in it) or just a static picture.

As to ancient art and stories, I wonder what archaeologists in the future would make of our artefacts and texts. Especially given our love of fiction. What if someone had bought The Good War by Studs Terkel and World War Z by Max Brooks, placed them on a shelf together and they were rediscovered two thousand years later, after a hypothesised Great Blackout? Or fragments from the many disaster/apocalypse movies out there - they do like to mock up news reporting "The world is ending!" in them.

Sure, fiction is usually obvious. But a lot of it could sound like fact - especially if translated out of what has become a dead language. Same goes for artwork.

Imagine Pompeii had been hosting something like a Star Trek Comic Con. Try explaining that!

WRT videos, there is no practical way to determine if a YouTube video is fake or not.

Indeed, the only way to be able to say for certain if any video, photograph or other piece of evidence is true or fake is to have the original in hand and to also have an ironclad chain of custody, so you know exactly who has had it in their hands before it came to the investigator.

WRT steam engines and other early technology, this has been the topic of discussion on the Safehold board many times. The origin and use of this sort of technology is not in question; the interesting question is actually "why" this sort of thing did not lead to an Industrial revolution in the first century AD?

Even the article says its not known what the carving represents, its not proof, its speculation.

OK this is stretching things, as an amateur in studying Egyptology the thing that looks like an insulator below the "light bulb" is the top of the scepter of the creator god Path.

Sculpture showing Path the top of his scepter is brely visible in the shadow of his beard:

We as in all such edited photos do not see what is below. Notice in the 'reconstructed light' we have a battery discovered Iraq as the power source. Something else to remember how many filaments in incandescent lights did Edison test to find one that worked?

Imaginative though :D

One of the more curious things i have seen is overhead views of both the Giza plateau and also the pyramid complex in mexico known as Teotihuacan. Both complexes when looked at from above look rather curiously like a simple circut board or renditions of Orions belt. However without any definitive evidence all that will be is pure speculation.
