After playing the early release of the game for a day now I must say I am blown away by it. It captures combat very well for a handheld game and has a nice learning curve for a complicated game.
Combat is fast paced and done well. Launching counter missiles and firing lasers at incoming missiles becomes quite important. Knowing when to roll ship to take missiles on your wedge is one of the most important things to learn. Learning when to fire different missiles at your foe sometimes get confusing but becomes clear after the training missions. My only complaint so far is no way to slow combat actually for those of us with slower reflexes. I am not judging the story line in the game as it moves the game along and does the job well in that regard. The game passes the most important test in that it is fun to play and does not require me to spend money to buy things to continue along. I hope the other people with early access come along and post there thoughts here as well and I will post more as I continue along in the game. |

This is good. I am having fun with this. Most games don't normally do that for me.
I still have trouble discerning what defense works with what's incoming but i seem to be spot on with most of my offense. Here is the website you can post your replays. I edited mine in game to just the battles and not the end game rewards. https://everyplay.com/tales-of-honor-the-secret-fleet The story line works I guess. I feel as if the captain( ) is a Santino personality. I might be confusing that with my own incompetence though. If you replay other levels accomplished the story gets rehashed before each battle. If a different monologue, maybe something shorter showing you're just coming upon randoms, pirates and enemy galore... Not a biggie though, I just push on through till I playing again. I see nothing at that URL. Is that something you can only view from inside the game?

Here is some of my letters with Evergreen about the the game. Some really slightly embarrasing stuff considering how old I am.
That was pretty much my first impression of the game. I got 4 hours of sleep since then... must pull myself away from the Honorverse or my skin pigment will forget what ultraviolet rays feel like. Just to say we're very happy with the feedback to date, both from Honor fans here and the public at large. We'll release the Android and Kindle Dates here very shortly, there are still a couple of iOS codes left!

One thing that confuses me is the distinction between offensive and defensive components. The Lasers ship area apparently addresses both point defense / grasers and missile laser heads; the sidewall upgrades claim to affect missiles' ability to degrade enemy sidewalls. I'd expected both of those functions to apply in the Weapons section. Given the typos and such in descriptive text (shield buster description?) I'm left wondering exactly what the effect of these upgrades is. One thing that might help is clearer (numerical) indication of the change, e.g. +16 damage to sidewalls.
Speaking of sidewalls, I saw a couple quick visualizations of the honeycomb pattern blocking missiles early, but now I see no effect of my sidewalls at all. My ship got pretty beat up before I got the hang of it, so they might just be gone. Can't tell. |

I don't think these ships have offensive lasers or grasers. Its all point defense lasers so far… The side wall upgrades are to degrade the enemy's sidewall penetration ability of your ship. When you scroll through the ship, the tab on the right gives you an inventory of what is possible for each section. They don't give you a numerical indication with the item but you will see the meters change as you improve your ship. The green with numbers is your ships overall health I think and the blue bars are your sidewall defenses. Cthia's father ~ "Son, do not cater to the common belief that a person has to earn respect. Ok. If you are trying to upgrade or move your equipment around in your ship and it just hangs there (just like your navigation bar in your browser) or just dispears on you. You lost internet connection most likely. I didn't lose any items (maybe currency) but it might be possible to lose the items settings if they were in the middle of an upgrade. I rebooted my connection, repeated my missing steps and moved on. Reaching the next wormhole on a shoe string was an adventure. I suggest keeping most of your upgrades if not plugged in, most definitely in storage. When they upgrade you to your next ship they don't play around
Oh wow New ship and it's so roomy. Hello Hello Hello Anybody There? body There? there? yeeeeEESSSSS Cthia's father ~ "Son, do not cater to the common belief that a person has to earn respect.
