In tribal societies, some of them, men do not share nookie with women from when she is known to be pregnant until she weans the child at age 2-3 or so. This has several tribe strengthening effects, less overpopulation to strain nomadic resources, less women dying from too many pregnancies too close together. A Darwinian survival advantage.

Guess where the guys get their fun? And their deepest bonds? Yes. Which forms them into a hunting pack. Think of the Theban Sacred Band. Like that loyal to each other. The glue is... yes. Making enjoyment of that a Darwinian survival plus. Thus the dual use fore and aft capacities of males. All perfectly rational and the ... exotic wiring males have aft is not needed for the more ... mundane ... use. So.... anyway it's there. Just is. And where may the ladies have been getting comfort while the sirs are not visiting? Yes. Thus rational reasons for all this in perfectly mundane life as lived for who knows how many millennia.

Women do a lot of things to strengthen a tribe be they childbearers or not. Ditto guys be they studs or not. I don't think any tribe known kills barren women just for that. Helping the moms is just one advantage to having extra females present.

In some tribal societies, older and wiser than ours, those we called Queens when I was young and with no disrespect intended - I don't know current PC terminology - are considered sacred and protected by the gods. It is cursed to hurt one. They are often priests, healers, shamens, sages, etc. Nurturers. And valued. Deeply.

Segue far into the future I see no reason LGBT should die out, though I would expect it would become less ghettoized as more hets become less hair on fire about it.

Not a terribly patriotic statement if one actually believes in the Constitution and constitutional processes. Even bad presidents deserve the support of the electorate while they are in office if one believes in the Constitution.

Politics elsewhere, please, but do note I am not suggesting linching for it.

Extremes tend to beget extreme reactions. Newtonian action and reaction and all that. Worrisome and unhealthy in both directions, imo.

May we all come to a place where rational and reasonable are no longer anathema. I fear for our nation and for the world in general on many levels, almost all of which are rooted in ignorance, fear and bigotry. The rest are rooted in greed and powermongering.

Lets just say that nationalism and patriotism are viewed with a certain degree of suspicion on this side of the Atlantic. In the context of European history, they have a tendency to get lots and lots of people killed.

Hans is fairly typical of most Germans - coming to grips with the toxic legacy of Prussian Militarism and Nazism has left modern Germans with a bone-deep suspicion and fear of patriotism and nationalism. They know how easily they can be warped.

British hyperpatriotism died on the Somme and the mud of Passchendaele.

If you look at how the people who wrote the constitution conducted themselves while in politics you might get a different feel.

I would be more impressed with patriotism if it had less to do with cheerleading, flag waving and uniforms and more to do with improving our communities. Most of the most fervent "patriots"I know sit on their arses rather than lending a helping hand.
