Damn I love that song. Of course you know rose, that you are employing a cutthroat television commercial tactic to peddle your wares. Now I love Augustus and Estelle, through tears and lamentations.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

I'm telling you, Augustus and Estelle are meant to be. (Or they are now, since Augustus has woken up to his own awesome. And so has everyone else.) Pre-Monica? This romance would never have had a chance. After it? Bring on the bridal white, baby!!

And the song really does fit them - there's something sort of quiet to me about their love. Quiet, deep, long-lasting - not something that makes people giggle behind their hands because it's so obvious, but once they know it's like, "Good Lord, how didn't I see that before? It's right there in the open if you know what you're looking for." It's mature, it's graceful - it's not the first blush of wild, out-of-control passion (though there is passion there), it's a relationship between two people who know who they are and where they want to go and just so happen to discover that they'd quite like to share that journey with each other.

Yes, if you asked me to write an essay on why they're perfect together, I'd be able to. In fact, I think I just did...

For Allen Higgins (aka my darling):

"Hold My Heart" ~ Tenth Avenue North

One tear in the driving rain
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the Maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breaking heart?

One life, that's all I am,
Right now I can barely stand
If You're everything You say You are
Would you come close, and hold my heart?

For Honor (change the title to Gimme (Hot) Chocolate)

http://youtu.be/WIKqgE4BwAY

Translation:

Give Me Chocolate!!

Atatata taata taatatata zukkyun.
Watatata taata taatatata dokkyun.
Zukyun. Dokyun. Zukyun. Dokyun.
I won’t. Won’t. Won’t. Won’t. Never. Never. Never.

Check-it-out chocolate. Can I have a bit of chocolate?
But my weight worries me a bit these days.
However, chocolate. Can I have a bit of chocolate?
But wait a while! Wait a while! Wait! Wait! Wait!

Atatata taata taatatata zukkyun.
Wadadada daada daadadada dokkyun.
Zukyun. Dokyun. Zukyun. Dokyun.
Yet. Yet. Yet. Yet. Never. Never. Never.

Check-it-out chocolate. I can have a bit of chocolate, can’t I?
But my weight worries me a bit these days.
However, chocolate. I can have a bit of chocolate, can’t I?
But wait a while! Wait a while! Wait! Wait! Wait!

Parappappappaa rappappappaa rappappappaa paapapapapaa.
Too, too late. Too, too late. Too, too. P! P! P! Come on!

Atatata taata taatatata zukkyun.
Wadadada daada daadadada dokkyun.
Zukyun. Dokyun. Zukyun. Dokyun.
I won’t. Won’t. Won’t. Won’t. Never. Never. Never.

I did it so hard. I did my best.
So, a bit (heart). I ask you just a little bit.
Quickly chocolate. Please give me chocolate quickly!
Pass me chocolate! Chocolate please!

Check-it-out chocolate. I can have a bit of chocolate, can’t I?
I think so, don’t you? It’s so good. I’ll be so happy and can work hard.
So, chocolate. I can have a bit of chocolate, can’t I?
I think so, don’t you? Just a little bit. I’ll eat just a little bit of chocolate.

Parappappappaa rappappappaa rappappappaa paapapapapaa.
Too, too late. Too, too late. Too, too. P! P! P! Come on!
Parappappappaa rappappappaa rappappappaa paapapapapaa.

Second Basilisk. Echo's Children's No Quarter.

No Quarter

Grayson's lost its champion; to God she has returned,
To stand before the Tester, in the state her rank has earned.
Our Lady needs an honor guard, an escort, and a crew,
And if you're the best available, I guess you'll have to do.

No Quarter, NO QUARTER! You damn well earned your fate.
Give Harrington our compliments; we're sorry you are late.

Ancient legends say the rank a fallen warrior held
Depended on an Honor Guard of foes that one had felled.
And so in tardy tribute to the one we couldn't save,
We'll lay your fiery deaths like crimson flowers on her grave.

We know what Honor's ending was, by all the tapes we viewed.
And now we reach the battle; we are in no gentle mood.
Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky?
That's every ship in Grayson's Navy taking up the cry--

The Steadholder's recruiting, so pray don't surrender, sir.
Dame Harrington surrendered--once--and look what that got her!
We owe a debt of honor we have finally come to pay
And as we look you in the eye, we find one thing to say--

Put your arms in order, shine your boots and get them laced
You just might make the muster, but you don't have time to waste,
For if you pass inspection and she deems you fit to serve,
You might yet meet an honor that you bastards don't deserve.

Hi all,

Kudos, Grastel that is great poetry!

But I'm grateful you didn't suggest music yet, though I'm sure you had something in mind.

I look forward very much to more.

Regarding Estelle and Kumalo, I'm sorry but how does having a good friendly working relationship have to mean deep romance?

I liked Estelle from the moment I first read OBS, and Kumalo by the end of SoS, SFtS and MoH, but where in the textev is there any hint of romance between them.

Their personalities are quite different from my reading, and for all we know they've been long and happily married to other people.

Granted seeing romance where there isn't any, can be a problem to an author as George Bernard Shaw learned with his Pygmalion that became My Fair Lady etc, despite clear dialog in the original play, which even as a kid, I understood they weren't in love.

My taste in music is far removed from some of the selections I've read here, and while some are very amusing, I have to admit I couldn't see the connection for many; but Disney songs are rarely rational; Frozen's "Let it go" seemed proof the 'Ice Queen' was quite incompetent to rule, being rather childish and selfish than an adult by abandoning her people in their worst crisis-she obviously didn't care much about them to be even a little curious despite her apparent isolation, not that the movie paid much attention to the traditional stories, though that never stopped Disney before of course.

Don't get me started on Broadway musicals. ;)

It was a biiig galactic mistake for the Havenites to assassinate Elizabeth's father. It made young Elizabeth cry buckets of tears that night. How could the Havenites know that young Elizabeth had just received her delivery of goldies music from Old Chicago. The song that turned young fragile Elizabeth into the Soul of Steel.

Does there have to be "evidence", to think two characters would go well together romantically? What other evidence do you need beyond their evident enjoyment of each other's company and clear familiarity with each other?

I never once suggested I thought they were actually shagging like rabbits off-screen - because I don't believe they are. I'm a romantic, not an idiot. If in fact they have feelings for each other - which is possible, but not certain - I'd wager neither of them have woken up to it yet, or if they have they've quite deliberately decided to keep it to themselves for any number of reasons.

What I do see are two people taking comfort in each other's strength and friendship at the far end of the universe. The buck stops with them; they are the ultimate authorities in the Talbott Quadrant and that responsibility weighs heavily on both their shoulders. I know Estelle Matsuko; she takes her responsibilities seriously and feels them keenly, and Augustus, now that he is aware of what he can do, no doubt feels the same way. The difference now is that he believes in himself.

I see them as friends, as confidantes, as two people who have slowly been forged into a team - and I see the possibility for the blossoming of something more. I want them to be together because I think they balance each other, I think they suit each other, and I think they could make each other very, very happy. Will it take time for those feelings to grow? Of course it will. Love doesn't happen in a void, and it doesn't happen overnight, fairy tales notwithstanding! But it can happen when two people are thrown together in extraordinary circumstances, with a shared burden, a shared responsibility, and a natural affinity for each other.

I'd be exaggerating - at least at the moment - to say I see them as another Roslin and Adama... but I think that they could become so, and for the reasons I outlined above, I hope they do.

I want them to be happy, and I think that their greatest chance of that is with each other. I might be wrong, and if I am, I'll accept it with good grace. But until it's explicitly spelled out that one or both of them is already in love with someone else, I will never stop believing in the possibility.

That is all.
