The black stars are the ones taken directly from the JRMN map. The white-centered stars are the ones which I had to add to the JRMN map from other maps. Most of the white-centered stars either are outside the JRMN map or fall in the crease between the left and right parts of the map (it was split over two pages in JRMN). Only a few stars aren't on the JRMN map that could have been:
Helmsport and Lorn in Haven;
Casca near Manticore;
Willis, Jarmon, Henderson, Tumult, and Terrance in Silesia;
Lynx;
and Sasebo, which apparently has been moved from where it was on the JRMN map;

Thanks. Yeah, it was a lot of work. I spent most of my free time for almost three weeks on it. I should actually explain how I went about it, in case someone wants to compare my map with the ones Sawa has posted.

One thing most people don't think about is that publishers often tweak images when they print them in a book. For instance, they often slightly adjust the aspect ratio (ratio of vertical to horizontal size). Most printers and scanners also introduce slight changes in aspect ratio, in addition to the slight rotation you get when you don't perfectly align the sheet with the scanner plate. These errors aren't usually apparent to the naked eye, but they can cause headaches when you try to match scales between different maps.

My first step was to try to fix some of these errors. If you carefully examine the original JRMN map on Sawa's website, you will see that the letters in the upper left hand corner are not quite horizontal, indicating a slight rotation. Also, the zones in the Solarian League and the inset in the upper right corner are not quite circular, indicating a slight change in aspect ratio. Further careful measurement shows that the left and right parts of Sawa's scan of the map don't quite match up correctly. The right part has a very slightly different rotation than the left, and a slightly different scale.

So I split the two parts of the image, adjusted the aspect ratios to make circular things circular, and rotated each piece independently. Next I took the Congo-Erewhon-Maya map. The squares are not quite square, so I adjusted the aspect ratio to make them square. Then I rotated and scaled it to match the stars on the left part of the JRMN map. That helped me do the final adjustments on the right part of the JRMN map.

After that, it was just a matter of adding the other maps. Each one had aspect ratio adjustment, scaling, and rotation to match the stars on the JRMN map as best I could. When making the composite, I used the (adjusted) JRMN map position when available, adding stars from other maps only when I could not match a given star. Mostly I used the other maps to match names to stars.

When I scaled the JRMN map, I set the separation of Manticore and Basilisk to 840 pixels. That gives an approximate scale of 4 pixels per light-year.

I am in the process now of revising my list of distances between stars from the text. When my new list is complete, I will compare the text distances to the measured distances on the composite map. A preliminary check of a dozen distances shows the composite map matches the text within 2%-5%. I will see how well that holds for all known distances.

If the distances match well, this leads to the possibility of identifying candidates for other stars named in the text that don't show up on the published maps. This may or may not work, but we do know that David based all his early time and distance calculations on measurements from his paper map. I have already identified a couple candidates for Visigoth and Nolan, based on distances in the text. I'll keep people posted!

Sorry, Mesa is not on the map. The only maps that show a location for Mesa are the Strategic map (which was drawn mostly by hand) and the Illegible map. Neither of those fit well with the stars on the JRMN map.

I may be able to mark an estimated position for Mesa on a future version of the map.
