Honestly, that's why I didn't join the forum a long time ago-- it was all technical, and I wasn't about to go wading into arguments on that subject. I don't play the simulator or enjoy math. But when the Evergreen thing popped up, I wanted my voice to be heard-- especially since I am a woman.

It's always nice to meet a Grayson Princess in the forums.
I bow to you!

A deep Clinkscales-like bow!

Oftentimes my mind wanders to Esther McQueen.
I don't know what kind of President she'd ultimately have become, but she certainly had the right idea and I am uncertain how things would have transpired if not for her.

Yes, I think I love her, or at least her brain.

Thank you in turn.

I knew you are a male since you already explained were you got your name from earlier.

That doesn't change the fact I like this thread and the way you are participating in it.

I'll shut up now before we all blush :P

It had been entirely too male and tech-centric with everyone nitpicking about this approach vector or that number of missile tubes.

DWs other fantastic strengths - especially the emotional sides of his stories kind of didn't get the attention they deserve in my opinion. And the part of his readership who very much enjoy that side of his stories was entirely underrepresented.

It went so far that I was afraid the one-sidedness of the forums might have a negative impact on his stories.

Why thank you Bruno. That's very gentlemanly of you.

But I am male.

Honest mistake, I know. Someone else in a past-post stated that their brain parses cthia as Cynthia, but it is actually something taken out of Diane Duane's (thanks r&h) Spock's World. It is the Vulcan term for logic.

But everyone in the forum treats it like I am a regular on The Big Bang Theory.

"It means logic in Vulcan. My costume is the doppler effect."

I probably should get around to filling out my profile.

Also I recognize that men have a hard time facing their emotions outwardly...the getting in touch with our feminine sides. Fear not, I've found that she doesn't rub off!

Blame it on my sister. When I was very young, my older sister was turning ten and having a sleepover. My parents home has a large courtyard in the back and my sister and her friends were playing. Being a boy I threw a series of lit firecrackers in their midst. It was so hillarious seeing them scramble like mice. But...

"Mom!"

I was exiled to my room for the rest of the weekend.
I begged my sister to smuggle me in a book.

A Little Princess was all she'd give me.
I complained, but all I got was "Either this or nothing!"
She said I needed to learn manners.

I read it, after resisting. The weekend was long. I cried like a baby on little Sara Crewe. Been dripping tears ever since on a good read.

So I thought the forum could use a few lighter topics. Where one could easily partcipate, that doesn't always require firing neurons and globs of time.

And you said it perfectly. The Honorverse has very engaging emotional content. If a book doesn't evoke intense emotional responses from me it is a failure.

I don't require it to motivate me to frighten my cat but...well... :D

I have said this before and will certainly say it again. No fraks given.

Allen Higgins. Allen Higgins. Allen Higgins. Allen Higgins. I love Allen Higgins. My poor, darling, courageous, heartbroken man. I just want to wrap him up in my arms and hold him and make sure nothing bad can ever happen to him again and comfort him and make all the terrible memories in his mind go the hell away. Because Allen Higgins.

King Roger III

His foresight and love for his Star Kingdom is warmingly heart-wrenching.

Midshipwoman Audrey Bradlaugh War Maiden's other female Middy
Midshipman Nassios Makira Lieutenant, posthumously promoted to Lieutenant (junior grade)
Midshipman Bassanta Lakhia

It was nice to see that Honor actually had a first inner circle of sorts. The friends she made on snotty row! Another example of riding on Honor's coattails. Everyone around her seems to get promoted as well. Guilty by association can be a positive thing I see. Never was a positive thing in my father's eyes.

Whatever happened to Bradlaugh? Would have been nice if she and Honor teamed up in one of the later novels. They both were the only female Middies on War Maiden.

Loved? I like Firebrand and I like the general "Yes Minister-ness" of the Earth bureaucracy. Giancola was great until his accident.

I hate the goodie two shoed-ness of most Manty Military types. Although the occasional I have a brain / gutstype shows up. Terekhov is much liked as is Lester.

But I suppose I love the great writing of David Weber.

I second it!
And the reason he finally got down to business, was to avenge the virtues of a woman. Chivalry...is not dead!

*raises eyebrow* If you thought chivalry was dead when the planet Grayson exists, you might need to read the books again, cthia... :P

Let's see. Who haven't I loved on in this thread yet?

Naomi Kaplan! Let's talk about the sheer unadulterated awesome badass that is Naomi Kaplan.

Or Loretta Shoupe! Augustus' right-hand woman, and an excellent job she does of it, too. I love the man to death, but I don't think he'd be half the commander he is without her. Well, okay, maybe three-quarters...

Or the Victorias: watching Victoria Saunders realise that Augustus had lots and lots of good points was just the most adorable thing I've ever seen, and Victoria Armstrong offering to give up her role as flag captain for Michelle was just GAH. Even more GAH was michelle saying that no way was she giving up everything Vicky brought to her command structure just because some idiots' noses were out of joint.

Oh I agree rose. I couldn't resist another opportunity to endorse chivalry. It was one of the most important concepts my father taught to his kids. I love my mother and father very much for that.
