I thought I'd nab this idea from another forum I'm a member of.
"i had rather have a plain russet-coated captain that knows what he fights for, and loves what he knows, than that which you call a gentleman and is nothing else." Oliver Cromwell to Sir William Spring, September 1643. Mike. ---------------------

You don't win a war by dying for your country. You win by making the other poor bastard die for HIS country.

In War: Resolution, In Defeat: Defiance, In Victory: Magnanimity, In Peace: Goodwill
Winston Churchill. The greatest wartime Prime Minister the UK ever had (but sadly less than great in peacetime) ~~~~~~

Hmmm, not sure about that. Winnie had an bad tendency to get people killed because of his "great ideas"!!
"...as Prime Minister {Churchill} is magnificent and unique {but} as a strategist and tactician {he was} liable to be most dangerous. He loves the dramatic and public acclimation. He has, to my knowledge, put up some wild schemes." Admiral John Tovey, Commanding Officer, Home Fleet. Mike. ---------------------

Churchill did come up with some of my favourite quotes
Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” Nancy Astor: “Sir, if you were my husband, I would give you poison.” Churchill: “If I were your husband I would take it.” "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing—after they've tried everything else." "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." "If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons" ~~~~~~

Another Churchill quote:
Democracy is the worst form of government ever devised -- except for all the rest. --------------------- Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, they called it witchcraft. Now they call it golf. |
