See, the difference between some men and some women, we don't need more characters. Two timing infidelitists should be quite common in the Honorverse. As long as you don't date two different women on the same planet. Or if you have your own runabout--the same system.

If I was a Manticoran I'd be dating a girl on Grayson as well. Something about long hair, long twirly dresses that talk when you walk and Princesses that curtsy to a bow.

But guys have to be careful because some Manticoran women would recognize the different grade of Grayson lipstick on your collar, and the fact that you smell like recirculated air.

That's why I'd want to be a Manticoran expat living on Grayson. Manticoran wages should be able to support three wives reasonably well, and I'd have the cute Manticoran accent working for me too (as against the real world, where I only have a boring ol' English one). Not to mention that Grayson styles of dress and fashion are extremely...interesting.

Ahem...back on topic, now.

Hey, I wonder how things would work out if Shannon and Sonja decided to take shore leave on Beowulf?

Boring ol' English one? Is that English as in American or as in British? Because British accents are anything than boring. You'd have that Hugh Grant Notting Hill thing going for you that won over Julia Roberts. On Grayson where they sound like Country and Westerners, those Princesses would kill over you. I hear competition is pretty stiff on Grayson. The only problem I'd have...well I've been taken home to meet many parents but none ever owned Keys!

Are there still any Manticoran officers on loan to the GSN? Those are the officers Cupists should employ tailor made arrows, to take advantage of the close proximity.

We need more characters before we can really ship Travis with anyone...

In current Honorverse characters, how about Alquezar and Caitrin?

...is this the part where I bring up my ongoing love for Abby/Michael/Michelle, or should I keep my mouth shut?

And let me tell you, if I was a Grayson girl, I'd be going after the Manties like you would not believe. Polygyny or no, the odds with Grayson men are awful.

I think your love for them is already legendary. And as far as you keeping your mouth shut about your darlings...please!

But about that Grayson women all over Manticoran men thing...
Possibilities abound. Things are looking up, way up (npi) :o
Abigail here I come. Put on your best dress Abby, here I come. Cosmos, here we come. I want the best table. And I wanna be seen with this sweet arm candy! Things will be looking up all night, so I'd better wear loose-fitting trousers.

Ok, I am supposed to watch First Daughter this week with Gemma, who hasn't seen it yet. It stars Katie Holmes, as the President's daughter who falls in love with her bodyguard in college.

Well there happened to be an unspoken aggreement from a bodyguard's perspective that that isn't suppose to happen. I don't know if it is formally written, although I'd like to. Anyone know?

Where I'm headed is whether there is such an agreement on Grayson? Is it legal for an armsmen to court his charge?

My guess is that if it's not outright forbidden, it's severely frowned upon, for two reasons.

One: Those being guarded are usually, class-wise, stratospheres above those doing the guarding - and Graysons, in case you haven't noticed, are a bit stuffy about that whole "class" thing.

Two: In a life-or-death situation, romantic feelings are the last thing you want clouding the issue of who's doing the protecting and who's being protected.

Yes, I considered that as well...the not mixing business with pleasure thing. Emotional attachment in this case could get you killed. But statistically it seems destined to happen. They spend so much time together. And remember, they are supposed to learn from Manticoran. They are destined to learn some of the bad habits as well, like the Manticoran practice of marrying Commoners. I can see an argument on the horizon between a certain Princess and her father.

Don't discount the prospect of Mateo and Abigail out.
Unlikely relationships are my specialty. Even if until the Keys find out about it.

Professionalism is core to what you are being paid to provide. This includes maintaining the appropriate professional distance and complete confidentiality. Typically there is an actual person who is the bodyguard, who will have closer relationship. The bodyguard is the person who finds out what the plans are, assigns people and is within arms reach of the protectee when appropriate. However if the protectee is a woman the bodyguard will often be a woman since it makes a lot of things easier.

Thanks for post kzt, am I correct to assume you are referencing our own President and bodyguard? Since there is just one female Grayson armsmen I think.

Wonder if they will ultimately be referred to as armswomen.

More general executive protection. Truthfully I'd expect that Grayson would have figured out a solution to the issue of protecting daughters and wives, since there are fairly obvious issues that can arise with young men and women in close proximity that the Keys at least would seem inclined to take steps to avoid. It's all well and good to depend of professionalism, but Grayson has been kind of extremist on a few of these kind of details.

Up until Abigail, there were no armsmen assigned to the daughters. They had chaperones, instead. They were protected as part of the general duties of the Guard of which ever Steading. It was not until Benjamin got the laws regarding inheritance changed that daughters were considered important enough to warrant personal armsmen. Until then, it was the job of the chaperones to keep a lid on things.
