The CoGA has thus far been successful in acquiring many Charisian secrets.
What will fall into their hands next? My guess is the machinery and plans for the assembly line being sent to Chisholm. Quote: "I’ve already crated up the machine tools to set up rifle and pistol shops at Maikelsberg, and we’re sending along the plans to duplicate the original toolset." It will fall nicely into the hands of Church privateers. |

"Church privateers"? I'm not for certain there's such a thing- much less something powerful enough to take a Charisan galleon. i have a feeling that showers are the bathing method of choice in the Temple Lands because they all know something as big as a bathtub would have an armed Charisan in it someplace. |

If he wants to, more power to him. Come to think of it, I can see a couple of the Charisan admirals using that line. |

Hello JTG452!
Kudos! That is one of the best lines I've ever heard suggested, and perhaps if we beg humbly RFC may include it. Of course you realise that it probably would mean a red shirt for you... I know its a terrible sacrifice for you, but I'm sure you'll bear up under the strain. Thanks again for making me laugh and smile. All the very best! L
Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!

Steal all they want, Merlin will be happy to see them break ever more proscriptions in a their drive to carry out their Jihad. IMO once Earl Thirsk's tech wizard said that he saw no way to adopt the complete uniform measurements he basically said that at SOME point very soon the CoGA would be unable to match Charis.
As a guess something chemical would be next, possibly the smokeless powder once its used in battle. Especially given that Clyntahn has still not yet cracked their INITIAL powder compound and still used the inferior powders available on the mainland. Given his love of blowing things up Clyntahn will probably be very interested in the new explosives too. |

I'm waiting with baited breath for the first ambush pulled off by smokeless powder armed Charisans. I figure that even if HE decides to follow the Earth model and make the first smokeless a volume for volume equivalent to BP (meaning no improvement on the ballistics, it just doesn't smoke), it's going to be a HUGE tactical advantage. I figure it will go something like the AoG troops wander into the kill zone, a Charisan volley goes out, bodies fall, some NCO or officer's head swivels around frantically looking for the the smoke from the incoming fire to mark the direction of attack so he can lead a counter attack but there's no smoke! More fire lashes out, more AoG troops fall, the NCOs and officers get more frantic trying to figure out where the fire is coming from, etc, etc, ... I just hope a couple get away so they can pass the message along to the rank and file troops that Charisans can shoot you dead and nobody will ever even see where the shot came from. Talk about a morale booster! ( NOT!! ) Lyonheart, I didn't suggest the line, it just came out as a humorous response to the 'Temple Privateer' comment from the OP. Pokermind is the one that made that suggestion. I'm flattered by the thought it may be good enough to use in the storyline (personally, I think it needs a little rephrasing- a bit of polish to be just right -but the general concept is sound). If RFC wants to play with it a little and use it (I can see the Baron Rock Point brashly saying something like that) then he can have at it and more power to him. He's the writer that churns out book after book, I just luck out and turn a pretty phrase every once in a great while. |

Batteries.
Wilmshurst machines for manifesting the glory of Langhorne are also an amusing possibility. A shame they are so secret that no one in the Charisian Empire other than Nahrman or perhaps OWL being independent knows that Charis is working on them. After all, OWL is a targetting computer. An arrangement for targeting the rakurai on Zion is an obvious performance of its (her?) fundamental duties that requires no discussion with any of its human counterparts. Totally detailed plans for a Stirling engine.
They actually do work, sort of. It's just that the output is more impressive in revolutions per hour. |
