The Grav Lance is great for bringing down sidewalls but the Crippler is better dropping wedges on civilian ships. Doesn't work on military wedged ships but it might work on missiles. Surprise the heck out of the enemy when all their missiles suddenly turn their wedges off.

yeah, it's been brought up before. The crippler doesn't work on missile wedges. |

Figured that would be the response. How about putting a missile load with dazzlers on LERM or Mk16 / Mk23 or the like. Something to act as the nuke cloud to disrupt the telemetry between the missiles and the firing ships. Something that is one sided in what signals it blocks, you can see through, they cannot. A persistent dazzler barrier.

If you take another look at 'with one stone', take note of how the crippler's firing is described. The crippler, like the grav lance, is essentially a weaponized 'firing' of the ship's wedge. It's also described as inducing a noticeable fluctuation in the wedge when fired, and seems to have a refire rate of at least 5-10 seconds. Given the sizes missile salvos are attaining, I very highly doubt it would be a viable anti-missile weapon even *if* it can be targeted precisely enough to hit them.
As for jamming the telemetry, unless you're facing someone with apollo, by the time they're close enough for that the telemetry links will likely be cut anyway due to light speed limitations. _______________________________________________________

As far as I can tell David is simply ignoring that little problem. Cute little stories are not supposed to upend the entire combat approach of the horoverse. |

You can't make a one-sided dazzler. --------------------------------------------

Sure you can. Leave a few frequencies temporarily free of interference on a schedule that only you know about and have programmed your missiles to use. There's textev for this in SoS CH 6. |

It doesn't matter, by the time this would interfere you have reached the point where the remaining time of flight is less then the command loop time and you have hence cut the missiles loose and they are in fully autonomous mode. It might limit the data they can send back, but it won't interfere with that salvo. And given the acceleration possible, I think it will be harder to position a jammer there then you think. It's pretty much a one-time trick that requires a lot of R&D. |

Actually not. The Crippler is very short-ranged (less than a million KM) and takes 10 to 15 seconds to bring down a wedge. Missiles on terminal approach would be detonating before it could have more than minimal effect on them. ------------------- If a business tries something that doesn't work, they have to stop doing it or they will go broke. If the government tries something that doesn't work, they just keep shoveling more of our money into it forever. |

This is an R&D version of the tech provided by a conman and installed by a nation with a notorious lack of skilled technical people. It's like claiming that radar is a useless technology and will never accomplish anything because it needs a football field sized antenna fixed in one direction. |
